About This Pub
Ah, the Silver Cross – it's one of those timeless London pubs that just feels like a proper haven after a day pounding the pavements around Whitehall. From what I've gathered from folks who've popped in, the staff are an absolute delight, always on hand with a smile and quick to make you comfortable, whether you're there for a quick lunch or settling in for the big match. The food generally gets high marks; imagine tucking into some cracking fish and chips or a solid Chicken BLT that hits the spot just right. And let's not forget its prime position – you're mere minutes from all the iconic sights, making it dead easy to drop by. It's even welcoming to dogs, which is a nice touch if you're out and about with your pooch. On the flip side, there was that odd slip-up with a steak sandwich that sounded more like a bread fest than anything substantial, so it pays to keep expectations in check. Overall, with a solid rating pushing 4.1, it's a reliable choice for a relaxed pint and a chat, but maybe skip it if you're after something fancy – this one's all about that classic pub charm with a few quirks thrown in.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, always making you feel right at home with their helpful service.
-
The food hits the spot for the most part, with tasty options like crispy fish and chips, a great Chicken BLT, and perfectly cooked halloumi that leave you satisfied.
-
It's in a brilliant location in Whitehall, just a short stroll from Trafalgar Square and Downing Street, ideal for a quick stop after exploring.
-
The atmosphere is warm and historic, making it a lovely spot to relax with a pint, and it's even dog-friendly so you can bring your four-legged mate along.
-
A top choice for sports fans, with live events like the Women's Euros and rugby tours shown on big screens, adding to the buzz.
Cons
-
Food quality can be hit or miss, as one experience with a steak sandwich was a letdown – mostly bread and not much else, which was a real shame.
-
With such a central spot, it might get quite busy at peak times, so you could end up waiting for a table or dealing with a bit of a crowd.

The saddest steak sandwich I've ever seen let alone eaten - it was 90% bread. Staff were polite, but a miss on food (at least this time).
Nice place, helped us breath and rejuvenate after a day’s tiredness. Food was good, and the staff was very helpful and welcoming. Thank You Sahithi for making it comfortable for the new mum and baby.
Stopped by for lunch. Lots of seating, friendly & accommodating staff. Ordered the halloumi to start - it was perfect. Had the Chicken BLT & Steak Sandwich for mains. Both were great!
Very good food, beer phenomenal, staff very very friendly and helpful:) We were there everyday of our vacation in London 😃
Stopped in at Silver Cross Pub and was really impressed! The fish and chips were excellent—crispy, flavorful, and cooked just right. Portion size was generous and definitely worth the price. Great atmosphere and friendly service made it a perfect lunch stop. Would absolutely come back!
