About This Pub
Ah, Saltwells Inn – it's one of those hidden gems that I've heard great things about from mates who've popped in after a stroll around the nearby nature reserve. From what I've gathered, the food really steals the show; it's got that comforting, home-cooked charm with portions so generous you'd think they were made just for you, and at prices that won't leave you rummaging for change. It's spot on for families too, with massive kids' meals and a play area that keeps the youngsters happy while the grown-ups chat over a pint. And if you're out with the dog after a walk, they've got indoor spots that welcome them, which is always a nice touch. The staff sound like a friendly bunch, adding to that warm, community feel. But, let's be honest, it's not all perfect – there was that one off-putting incident where the owner got a bit heated, which might make you think twice if you're after a totally chilled-out evening. Plus, drinks can sometimes feel a tad pricey, and it does get busy, so you might have to wait a bit for a table. Overall, though, with a solid 4.4 rating from loads of folks, I'd say it's worth a visit for a casual get-together; just go in with realistic expectations and you'll likely have a cracking time.
Pros and Cons
Pros

-
It's a brilliant spot for families, with huge kids' meals and a play area to keep the little ones entertained while you relax.
-
Tucked away near a nature reserve, it's perfect for a post-walk pint or meal, and they've got dog-friendly areas inside, which is a real bonus for us dog lovers.
-
Prices are generally affordable, making it an easy choice for a casual outing without breaking the bank.
-
The staff come across as friendly and welcoming, adding to that cosy pub atmosphere.
-
Free parking and outdoor seating make it super convenient, especially on a sunny day.
Cons
-
One review mentioned a bit of a ruckus caused by the proprietor, which could put some folks off if they're after a completely relaxed vibe.
-
Prices for drinks like a pint of lager were called out as surprisingly high in one instance, so it might not always feel as budget-friendly as you'd hope.
-
It can get quite busy at times, which might mean waits for service or tables, based on what some have said.
-
While most experiences are positive, there's a chance things have slipped a bit over time, as one reviewer noted it wasn't as good as in the past.

Great little quiet pub!! The pub is well priced and the food is lovely....has that home cooked feeling to it! Very nice and well worth the money! Kids meals came out and they were huge! Would definitely visit again
Standard pub food, great after a dog walk. They have an indoor room that dogs are allowed in as well. Very close to the nature reserve & free parking as long as you put your reg in when you go inside
Great little hidden pub backing onto the nature reserve. Good is great value, chips are perfect & there's even a place for the kids to play so it's a great little spot for an afternoon in the sun and then a little walk in the nature reserve afterwards. Staff are friendly, but with how busy it is you are usually waiting for food.
Used to come here a lot when my kids were little. It went downhill but thought we'd go for a bit of nostalgia. Really shocked a the price of a pint of lager. Then we were witness to the proprietor Dean cause a ruckus to some young man who was quietly drinking a pint and just looking at the menu. Totally shocked at such poor customer service. There was just no call for abusing somewhere like that. Totally spoilt the night for us. Won't be back.
Popped in for a pint after walking around the Nature Reserve. I found it to be a very friendly, welcoming pub. The menu looked very interesting and reasonable priced, but I didn't eat there. There is a good play area & outdoor seating.
I don't think there is any accommodation
