About This Pub

Ah, Saltwater – it's one of those places that really captures the essence of a chilled-out day by the sea in Scarborough. Picture this: you're sat on that heated outdoor terrace, sipping on a well-crafted cocktail or a unique blend of coffee from The Heavenly Coffee Company, with the waves in the background and maybe even your furry friend tagging along. The staff are an absolute delight, always up for a chat and bending over backwards to sort out any dietary tweaks, which is brilliant if you're after vegan options or something custom. They've got a solid menu of freshly prepared grub that's spot on for all-day dining, from generous breakfasts to evening tipples. But, let's keep it real, it's not all smooth sailing – some reviews mention the food not being as hot as it'd like, or portions feeling a tad stingy, like with the bacon on brekkie. There was that one instance where salads weren't fresh and complaints didn't get the attention they deserved, which is a bit disappointing. Still, with recent feedback being more positive, it's worth a punt if you're in the area. All in all, it's a welcoming spot for good times with friends, as long as you go in with realistic expectations and maybe skip the app for ordering to avoid any faff.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The sea views are absolutely stunning, especially from that outdoor terrace – it's just the ticket for a relaxing afternoon with mates.
  • Staff are super friendly and really accommodating, always happy to tweak dishes for dietary needs like vegan options or allergies.
  • They've got a cracking selection of fresh coffee, drinks, and cocktails; the baristas know their stuff and the drinks go down a treat.
  • Food is freshly made on site, with plenty of choices that cater to all sorts, and it's great to see it's dog-friendly too.
  • It's open all day from early morning till late, making it ideal for everything from a hearty breakfast to evening drinks by the sea.
Cons
  • Some dishes can be a bit hit or miss with portions, like skimpy bacon on breakfasts, which might leave you wanting more.
  • Food temperature isn't always spot on – a few folks mentioned meals arriving warm rather than piping hot, which is a shame.
  • There have been gripes about freshness, such as salads that weren't up to scratch, and the manager not always handling complaints well.
  • The app for ordering seems a bit unreliable, with promises of codes that don't materialise, adding a bit of hassle.
  • Overall, it's got a moderate rating, so while it's decent, it doesn't always live up to expectations for a seaside spot.

What a lovely establishment. Wonderful to sit in a lovely diner by the sea without feeling ripped off because you’re by the sea. Excellent vegan choices , very friendly and wonderful coffee. 🤩 Forgot to take photos because we tucked in! Clean plates all round.

Had a small breakfast and a normal breakfast. Both ok but very stingy on the bacon with just the oval bit. Food was also warm, not hot, except for the beans. Orange juice fine, hot chocolate good (not too sweet) coffee ok ( not a lot of depth.) Trying to order on the app not good as promised 'code' never arrived. Why have lots of signs promoting cash payment, alonside lots of signs promoting QR code ordering and payment by phone? Edit May 2025: Thank you for responding. In return I would encourage you a) Respond slightly faster than 6 months later, b) learn from comments made rather be defensive. What you are reading in a review (when you get round to it) is the opinion of a customer. Your customer's thoughts and opinions should matter to you and be taken as a learning opportunity rather than be a provocation to go 'on the defensive/ attack'. Especially, perhaps, when the customer is not simply taking the chance to have a go at your business. I have been posting reviews for over 25 years and ran my own customer- facing businesses for 48 years. What I reported was what I saw and how I experienced your offering. Your reaction is a little inexperienced. I did, by the way, award you 4 stars. 85% of my reviews are 4 or 5 stars. It is now 3.

Sunny morning on lovely outdoor terrace. Scrambled eggs on toast plentiful, perfect, fresh crisp side salad. Generous . Toasted currant teacake. All toasted perfectly. Staff always lovely. Been many times for beers when staying at sands. First time we ate here today and will definitely we eating brekkie here every day later in 2025 when we stay over a few days. Oh yes and the teapots are cute.

I don't think it is feasibly possible for me to give enough of a glowing review for this wonderful place. We were originally attracted to this place because it had a dog friendly sign and it was our furry companions 1st Gotcha day. Not only were the staff extremely friendly but also gave us a bowl of water for our pup. The prices were more than back home but I always expect as such when ordering at the seaside where the fish is fresher. Well, when the food arrived we were taken aback. The portions were stupendous. However, I am always about substance over sizes and I have to say, the chips were crispy on the outside and fluffy and soft on the inside, they were delicious. Then, there's the fish. It was humongous and it was practically glowing a wonderful golden colour. The batter was crispy but not hard and not oily, you cannot ask for better there. The actual fish itself was so perfectly soft and cloud like that I wouldn't have even needed teeth to eat it. The taste was just fantastic. Our pup thought so too! I, foolishly, with bigger eyes than my stomach, ordered a side order of onion rings. The onion rings were so fresh and crispy and juicy. I am ashamed to say I couldn't finish them, but they did come home with me! After that, we had dessert, they were out of ice cream but very kindly went to their sister shop and brought us some. I cannot think of anything else to ask for from an eating experience. The staff were warm and welcoming and apologetic for us having to wait for the ice cream. When it only took 5 minutes. We will absolutely be coming back! Tldr: Massive portions, delicious food, friendly staff and dog friendly.

Unfortunately not a great experience, I try not to leave negative feedback. We complained to the manager but don't feel she really listened to us. So had to right this review. Our side salads were not fresh at all, lettuce was browning on the edges..The waitress did change a salad, then we realised we should have had coleslaw, but this was missing...I had a jacket potato with a vegetarian 3 bean chilli, the chilli was nice but the potato wasn't properly cooked on the inside so couldn't eat it...very disappointed especially as its £10.50....We asked to speak to the manager, then waited over 10mins she didn't turn up, I finally went to look for her... She just seemed to agree with me and was quite non concerned but did refund one of the meals. Hopefully in the long term good quality fresh food will be served.
