About This Pub
Ah, Salt and Tar – what a gem in Bootle for anyone after a proper night out with live music or a gig. From what I've gathered from the reviews, it's got this fantastic energy with staff who go out of their way to make you feel right at home, and the sound quality for events is just brilliant, really drawing you in. The food options are spot on too, and it's handy having parking so close by, making it accessible without the hassle. But, on the flip side, the drinks menu feels a bit thin with only one draft beer available, and at £6.95 a pint, it might make you think twice before ordering another round. Plus, not knowing the exact hours could throw a spanner in the works for planning. All in all, it's a cracking place for a fun evening, especially if you're into live performances, but it's worth keeping those little niggles in mind to set your expectations straight.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are absolutely fabulous and make every visit feel warm and welcoming, just like chatting with old mates.
-
It's a brilliant spot for live gigs and concerts, with top-notch sound and an electric atmosphere that gets everyone buzzing.
-
They've got a solid selection of food and drinks, and the handy parking nearby makes it dead easy to pop in without any fuss.
-
Recent improvements, like the VIP area, are a real winner for making sure everyone can enjoy the shows without missing a beat.
Cons
-
The drink options are a bit limited, with only one draft beer on tap, which might leave you wanting more variety.
-
Pints can feel a tad pricey at nearly £7, so it might hit the wallet a bit harder than expected for a casual night out.
-
There's no clear info on operating hours, which could be a nuisance if you're trying to plan ahead and avoid any surprises.

Great venue with fab staff. Food choices were good. Parking is available close by - short walk. I e loved the gig we saw at this venue.
Just watched Tom Jones! Wow fantastic performance and fabulous venue! Great food n drink, atmosphere , facilities lovely staff and the legend that is Sir Tom Jones! What more could you possibly want on your doorstep? Can’t wait for the next concert!
The venue has improved a lot since last summer with better entrance / exit arrangements, more toilets, and therefore smaller waiting times.
The VIP area is a great addition for those who are small and usually don't get to see any of the artists in action!
It was a price worth paying (the equivalent to extra leg-room for tall people) for the uninterrupted view!
However, I still feel it needs to become more inclusive. I don't know how you'd be able to visit / enjoy if you were a wheelchair user or have mobility issues.
Same with children (9 yrs + at least) who can't go to any music events there. I understand there are health and safety requirements to meet but I thought this was going to be a community venue but doesn't feel like it is if families can't attend together to enjoy music.
Healthier food options would be great too!!
went to status quo, great location, excellent sound.
good selection of food
only draft was madri at 6.95 a pint, every thing else was cans.
will go again
An excellent evening of comedy hosted by Bren Riley. New comics performing their sets after 6 weeks of training to raise money for local charity. The set up and salt and tar was amazing! Food stalls, beers and great venue for the Comedy Weekend coming up! The comics did great infront of a very supportive audience with a few to watch. Honestly, a great evening. Well done.
The Host did a great job raising the audience with his hilarious humour.
Go and watch some comedy!
