About This Pub
Ah, the Cat & Fiddle – it's one of those neighbourhood pubs in Bootle that you might stumble upon for a relaxed pint after work or on a weekend. From what I've gathered from the reviews, the staff really shine here; they're professional, polite, and go out of their way to help, which is heartwarming to hear, especially for anyone who might need a hand getting around. The atmosphere sounds like a proper friendly hub with locals chatting away and a DJ keeping things upbeat on weekends – it's not going to blow your socks off, but it's a solid spot for some good craic without breaking the bank. On the flip side, a few folks have mentioned it's feeling a tad neglected lately, almost like a shadow of its old self, possibly due to fewer people around from office closures and such. The recent ratings aren't as starry-eyed, hinting that things could use a freshen-up, but if you're just after an easy-going place for a drink and some tunes, it still holds its own. All in all, it's worth a visit if you're in the area, but keep expectations realistic for a no-frills night out.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff at the Cat & Fiddle are absolutely lovely and helpful, always making you feel right at home – especially if you're popping in for a quick pint or need a bit of assistance.
-
It's got a welcoming atmosphere with friendly locals and a DJ spinning tunes on weekends, which adds a nice buzz without being overwhelming.
-
Being an inexpensive spot, it's perfect for a budget-friendly night out, and it saves you a bundle on taxis if you're local to Bootle.
-
They stay open late on weekends, up to 2am, which is brilliant if you're looking to extend the evening without heading too far.
Cons
-
Some visitors have noted that the place feels a bit run-down these days, like it's lost some of its former charm due to changes in the area.
-
Recent feedback isn't as positive, with a couple of lower ratings suggesting things might not be as consistent as they'd like.
-
It's not exactly a standout venue – more of a straightforward local pub rather than somewhere with fancy extras, so it might not wow you if you're after something special.

A dump and a sorry fall from a previous decent venue. A sad indicator of decline of commerce/office workers in area due to working from home and closures.
The atmosphere was good , people in there were polite and friendly and the staff were just as professional,I didn't have food but if it is as good as the beer it's got to be great .👍🇬🇧🏴🏴🏴
Local pub open till 2am of a weekend.
This isn't a spectacular venue but it saves you a fortune on a taxi home at the end of the night if you live in the area. Selection of alcoholic drinks with a DJ spinning tunes.
Did not dine at the above establishment. Again, the staff are very lovely and helpful. The bar lady helped me to the loo and back again to my table. A combination of the staff and customers brought our drinks over to us as My friend and I are both severe vision impaired. And the barman brought over the card reader, so we could pay. Everything was made very convenient for us and they helped us out from the pub towards the bus stop which is conveniently right in front of the pub. A very good experience. Haven’t been there in many a year but will be going back
Great place for punt at the end of the week. Friendly staff and comfortable even in the heat we had this week.
