About This Pub

Ah, The Wild Rose – it's one of those classic pubs that really captures that community feel, especially if you're up for watching the racing or just having a relaxed chat. I reckon it's a top pick for anyone after an affordable night out; you can pop in for a pint or a meal without worrying about the bill, and the staff are genuinely warm and efficient, sorting out any slip-ups faster than you can say 'another round'. That said, it's not all smooth sailing – some mates have mentioned the toilets looking a bit neglected, even when things aren't hectic, and the drinks can be hit or miss, with the lager leaving a bad taste in more ways than one. Plus, with the recent changes from what it used to be, the menu's shrunk a bit and prices have crept up, which might put a dampener on things if you're expecting the old bargains. Overall, it's worth a visit if you're in the area and fancy a no-fuss spot, but keep your expectations in check for the finer details – it's got heart, but room for improvement.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • It's got that genuine local pub vibe, with racing on the telly and a welcoming crowd that makes you feel right at home.
  • Prices are dead reasonable, perfect for grabbing a budget pint or a quick meal without breaking the bank.
  • The staff are lovely and chatty, always quick to fix any little issues, like when something's missing from your order – they sort it out with a smile.
Cons
  • The toilets can be a bit of a letdown, especially if it's not too busy; they might need a good tidy-up more often.
  • Some drinks, like the lager, have been disappointing – one person couldn't even finish theirs because it tasted off.
  • Food quality isn't always spot on; there have been complaints about undercooked items or things being overdone, and the menu's got less choice now with higher costs since the management changed.

Not great now it's changed from weather spoons. Toilets needed a good clean and we were in in the afternoon and it wasn't that busy, also 5 staff on so could of been looked after better. Lager tasted awful, I actually couldn't swallow it and left 3/4 pint

Under new management now, so ignore all menus and comments based on food before 2023... Costs are higher and less choice on menu. Wetherspoons decided to close this pub from Sunday 18/12/2022. 🤬 🤬 🤬 Newspaper coverage said staff would relocate to other pubs. Enjoyed many meals, coffees, and infrequent 'double' too, until end 2022.

Nice pub with more of a 'local' feel than most Wetherspoons. Expect to see racing on the television and betting slips being passed around. I wouldn't say it is handy to pop into after shopping at the nearby Bootle strand as no-body shops there anymore but this Wetherspoon is busy at all hours of the day with pints of mild and Guinness seeming to be the 8am beverage of choice here. Food is expertly heated up by Chef Mike's personal team of professional pingers. Personally I prefer a different vibe but it is comfortable and friendly. I find that the staff are very nice and welcoming here.

Not one to give a bad review but it was vile. Bacon wasnt cooked. The black pudding was like hockey pucks and the eggs were over done. Coffee was nice though

Lovely Breakfast, Fast Service, Lowest Price of Modt Weatherspoons I have been to but The Highest Quality. 1 Item was missed off my plate (Mushroom) but staff rectified the issue and were apologetic. Very quick to Fix. Great Service. All staff very friendly and chatty great way to start the day. Not to mention the Refillable Coffee does not go A miss especially when its a self service machine. It might only be a Spoons but its Highly Recommended
