About This Pub

Ah, The Jollys – it's one of those spots that sounds promising at first glance with its solid overall rating, but dig a bit deeper and you'll see it's a bit of a mixed bag from the recent buzz. On the upside, the staff come across as genuinely matey, and if you're into your sports, those big screens make it a cracking place to settle in for a game or even some dog racing when the weather's grim. Plus, with a bus stop just outside, it's dead convenient for a quick stop-off. But honestly, it's not all pints and cheers; some have had a tough time with service that's gone missing when you need it most, leaving you standing there wondering what's what. The atmosphere can swing from buzzing to barren, and there are tales of it smelling a bit dodgy or being too noisy late at night, which isn't ideal if you're thinking of grabbing a room upstairs. All in all, if you're up for a casual pint and don't mind a bit of unpredictability, it might be worth a try – just keep your expectations in check and maybe check ahead to avoid any surprises.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are really friendly and welcoming, which makes for a nice chat and a warm atmosphere when you're in.
  • It's got multiple big TVs showing sports, perfect for catching a match or even dog racing on a rainy evening.
  • Handy location with a bus stop right outside, so it's easy to pop in after getting off public transport.
Cons
  • Service can be pretty unreliable; some folks have turned up and found no one around, which is a right letdown.
  • The place often feels dead quiet with no music or entertainment, making it hit and miss for a lively night out.
  • There are complaints about it smelling off or having noise issues, like late-night singing that keeps you up if you're staying over.

The service is very bad. We contacted them based on checking in at eleven o'clock. We arrived and did not find anyone there. I do not recommend it at all.

This place is lucky to even get one star from me got there was supposed to have an email with the code for the keys didn’t get that. When I got through the door the place stank of weed and keeping in mind I have a toddler. Trying to get hold of someone to even acknowledge any of this is a joke. I wouldn’t recommend this place to my worst enemy

pub underneath with either karaoke or a really terrible singer who goes on well after midnight and literally screams. Inconsiderate of them to advertise rooms when they just cash grab if they’re gonna scream down the mic so late. Also when advertised they don’t even inform us of any events going on at the pub or any live singing etc.

Friendly staff, though I have only started visiting this pub this year. Multiple big TVs showing sport (dog racing when I visited one wet evening recently). Handy that there's a bus stop outside, for buses to the Bus station at Washington Parade, and I bet some customers may pop in after a train journey returning to New Strand from the city...
