About This Pub

Ah, the Royal Arms – it's one of those pubs that really hits the spot for a laid-back evening out. From what I've gathered from folks who've popped in, the food is a proper treat; imagine tucking into some top-notch coffee or a hearty meal with massive portions that leave you satisfied without emptying your wallet. The staff are just lovely, always going the extra mile to make sure everyone's comfortable, whether you're with the family, a big group, or even bringing the dog for a pint of water. It's got that warm, welcoming feel that's perfect after a chilly walk in the countryside. On the downside, it's not flawless – there've been tales of the odd mix-up, like getting the wrong order or a meal that didn't quite live up to expectations, which is a shame in such a scenic spot. Overall, though, with so many rave reviews, I'd say it's well worth a visit if you're in the Darwen area; just keep your fingers crossed for a smooth experience and you'll likely have a brilliant time.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely delicious – think amazing coffee, proper chips, and a standout cheese pie that keeps you coming back for more.
  • Staff are incredibly friendly and accommodating, always ready to help with special requests like swapping meals for kids or handling groups with ease.
  • Prices are spot on for what you get, with generous portions that make it feel like great value without breaking the bank.
  • It's a warm and welcoming spot, perfect for relaxing after a walk, with a cosy atmosphere that suits families, mates, and even furry friends.
Cons
  • There have been a few slip-ups with orders, like getting the wrong dish or an underwhelming meal, which can put a dampener on the experience.
  • Food quality isn't always consistent, as one visitor mentioned a disappointing fish and chips and a mix-up with their burger.

Me my mum & son called here in the evening for a coffee the coffee was amazing & we then checked out the food menu & could not resist ordering some food the food was so delicious and the prices was really good considering the amount of food you got. The staff was so pleasant and welcoming plus the little puppy they had mooching around playing tug of war with my mums cardigan 😂😂 this place is highly recommended so if your passing please call in 👍

Don't eat here. This is the second bad meal I have had. The first was a poor fish and chips. This time they gave me a lamb burger when I ordered the local beef. Such a shame because the area is awesome.

Been here with family and the dog a few times. The staff are lovely and very accommodating,, they changed a main meal to a kiddies meal, ect no problem. The food was served pretty quick, very nice and hot. The cheese pie is amazing. Nice country pub, I have stayed in the spacey car park in camper, lots of great walks from here too.

We visited after a cold and muddy walk. The venue was nice and warm inside and the staff accommodated our group of 9. Our group required oat milk and gluten free bread which the staff were able to provide. They allowed our dog inside and gave them a drink of water. We each ordered a coffee which came with a biscoffe biscuit, which is always a nice treat. Some of us ordered bacon barms, I enjoyed my brew and butty very much. Had to ask for sauce but staff responded quickly. The room was decorated for Christmas and had twinkle lights around the clocks which added to the warm atmosphere. Very pleasant visit and would recommend.
