About This Pub

Ah, let me tell you about The Black Bull – it's one of those hidden gems in Lancashire that just warms your heart the second you step inside. I've got to say, the beers are an absolute highlight; they're brewed right on the premises with that real dedication to tradition and quality, offering everything from refreshing pale ales to rich porters that leave you wanting another round. The staff are just lovely, always up for a chat and making sure you're looked after, which really adds to the welcoming feel of the place. Prices are spot on too – you won't feel like you're being ripped off, which is a breath of fresh air these days. On the flip side, though, it's a bit of a shame about the food; it's mostly just basic nibbles, so if you're hoping for a proper pub grub feast, you might end up a tad disappointed. The opening times can be a nuisance as well, with it only being open five days and not kicking off until the afternoon, so you'll need to plan around that. And while the village setting gives it that quaint, peaceful charm with gorgeous views, it might not be the easiest spot if you're not in the area. All in all, it's a fabulous spot for sinking into a comfy chair with a pint and enjoying the simple pleasures, but it's worth keeping those little drawbacks in mind for the full picture.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • Fantastic selection of real ales brewed right on site, with around eight different types on hand-pump that cater to all tastes
  • Friendly and welcoming staff who make you feel right at home from the moment you walk in
  • Incredibly affordable prices, so you can enjoy a great pint without worrying about the cost
  • Cozy and warm atmosphere, especially in winter with real fires that add to the charm of this traditional Lancashire spot
  • A proper family-run vibe with natural, high-quality ingredients that really shine through in every brew
Cons
  • Limited food choices, mostly just simple bar snacks like crisps and nuts, so it might not satisfy if you're after a full meal
  • Only open five days a week with fairly late starts around 3pm, which means it's not ideal for a quick lunchtime stop or spontaneous visits
  • Tucked away in a village location, so it could be a bit tricky to get to if you're not local or driving

Only been in the once for a quick pint, but must admit I was quite impressed. Large selection of real ale. Friendly staff. Cheap prices. It was quite full on the Friday I went (about 4.30) with a wide age range of groups. A popular place for the locals which suggests it's good

This wonderful pub in Tockholes , Blackburn/Darwen is a fabulous Country pub with it's own Micro Brewery and a cosy quiet bar serving several of it's own ales, lagers, soft drinks and simple barsnacks like crisps and nuts. I Love the atmosphere of a quiet village pub and that's exactly what I got with a beautiful wood burning fireplace and ample seating. The barman was exceptionally friendly and it was a delight to travel here in the village of one of my longest known friends. I heartily recommend You try it out.
