About This Pub
Oh, what a gem the Roscoe Head is – it's one of those pubs that just feels like it's been around forever, with its cosy nooks and that unmistakable charm of a proper free house. I've got to say, the real ales are a real highlight; they're so well-kept and varied that you'd be hard-pressed not to find something brilliant to sip on, whether it's a classic bitter or one of the guest brews. The staff really make the place, always up for a bit of banter and making sure everything runs smoothly, which adds to that welcoming feel where you can settle in for a good natter. It's affordable too, so you won't feel guilty about staying for another round. On the flip side, if you're hoping for a wider choice of grub beyond their tasty pies, you might find it a bit limited, and on packed nights, it can get quite intimate, which isn't ideal if you're after more room to breathe. All in all, it's a fantastic spot for anyone who appreciates a traditional pub experience, but it might not be everyone's cup of tea if you fancy something more upbeat – still, I'd recommend popping in for the atmosphere alone; you won't regret it!
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The real ale selection is absolutely spot on, with classics like Timothy Taylor's Landlord and a rotating lineup of guest beers from small breweries – perfect for any ale enthusiast.
-
It's got that cosy, traditional vibe with separate rooms that make it ideal for a proper chat without any distractions like jukeboxes or machines.
-
The staff are genuinely friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
-
Prices are really reasonable, so you can enjoy a pint or a hot pie without breaking the bank.
-
They've got simple but tasty food options like hot pies available all day, and it's even wheelchair accessible with a ramp if you need it.
Cons
-
The food menu is pretty basic, mostly just pies and sausage rolls, so if you're after a full meal, you might need to look elsewhere.
-
It can get a bit snug in there, especially on busier evenings, which might not suit everyone if you're after more space to spread out.
-
There's no music or games around, which is great for conversation but could feel a tad quiet if you're in the mood for a livelier atmosphere.

Traveled here with my partner for a good long bank holiday away. Found this little pub tucked down a street. Absolutely amazing staff and owner, Josh and George. We felt right at home every day and kept coming back all weekend. They do pies and sausage rolls that are gorgeous and fix a terrible hangover. Please visit this pub if it's near you when you come to Liverpool!
Sadly didn't get a lot of photos, but they've quite the collection of Beer Guides and the history of the founder, who was anti slave
One of the Famous Five…. A pub that has been in every edition of the Good Beer Guide since its inception. Clean, tidy and unspoiled with a marvellous selection of real ales and a real pie or two when you’re hungry. Josh, George and Co. are a credit to the pub they splendidly run.
A beautiful and unique old Victorian Liverpool pub dating back to 1831. I loved going in there & will definitely return. The pub has snugs which you rarely see these days. The beer is well looked after. I had a pint of Tetley’s Cask Conditioned bitter which was excellent. The landlord is a great lad. Had a nice chat with him. He’s doing a great job following on from the landlady that was there for 30 years. I like everything about this pub. It even has some delicious pies if you fancy a snack.
A mainstay in the Good Beer Guide from the very beginning with plenty of options on the cask front together with great service. Top class regulars to have a natter with can make it difficult to leave.
One of my favourite pubs in Liverpool! The service is always great and the prices are very reasonable. There are 3 separate seating/lounging areas, but they are all very cozy and intimate. It definitely seems like a pub where local people gather. I love the vibes here, definitely check out this place. The bartenders are always so friendly and welcoming.
