About This Pub
Ah, Rainsford Bar at The County Hotel – what a nice find in Chelmsford! I have to say, it's one of those places that doesn't scream 'come in' from the outside, but step through the doors and you're greeted with this contemporary yet cosy lounge that's just perfect for kicking back with a glass of wine or a hot chocolate. Based on the single glowing review, folks seem to love the drinks for their great value and the overall atmosphere, which makes it ideal for a casual meet-up or even a bite to eat from their bar menu. It's handy being part of a hotel too, so if you're in for meetings or a stay, you can easily pop down for a relax. On the flip side, with only one review under its belt, it's a bit tricky to know if this is the norm or just a lucky day – I'd love to see more people sharing their experiences. Plus, they've got that note about allergens, so if you're someone who needs to be careful with that, it's worth having a word with the team beforehand. All in all, it's worth giving it a go if you're in the area; you might just discover a new favourite spot for a chilled evening.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The atmosphere inside is a real treat – it's contemporary and cosy, perfect for unwinding after a long day or catching up with mates over a drink.
-
Drinks are reasonably priced and there's a good selection, including wines and cocktails, which makes it easy to find something for everyone.
-
It's part of The County Hotel, so you can pop in for a quick bite or a full meal from their bar or restaurant menu, adding a bit of convenience if you're staying nearby.
-
They're open 24/7, which is brilliant for late-night chats or early morning coffees without worrying about closing times.
Cons
-
From the outside, it doesn't look all that inviting, so you might walk past it without giving it a second glance – a bit of a shame really.
-
With only one review so far, it's hard to get a full picture of what it's like on a regular basis; could do with more feedback to build confidence.
-
They mention potential issues with allergens in the kitchen, so if you've got sensitivities, you'll need to chat with the staff first to be safe.

Well what a lovely place to find. From outside I’d say it doesn’t look the best but once in a whole different place. We popped there as booked to meet my sister for lunch for her 50th as doing more with family a week later. Drinks were lovely and good price. Bar menu or restaurant menu was available and we picked from both. 4 starter, 6 mains and 4 desserts. Food was lovely 5 stars my lamb cutlets were to die for. But over all this we all said the one thing that stood out was Sophie she was the most lovely, caring and helpful waitress I think I’ve ever been served by. Our bill was just under £300 what we said was very good value and we left 10% tip and we will be back ( sadly we live Norwich ) so won’t be weekly 😂
