About This Pub

So, I've been having a look at The Globe in Chelmsford, and it's got that classic pub charm that's just right for a relaxed get-together with friends. The prices are dead reasonable – you can grab a hearty meal and a few drinks without it costing a fortune, which is always a win in my book. They're really geared up for sports enthusiasts too, with all the big matches on the screens, and events like quiz nights make it a fun place to spend an evening. On the downside, though, the food's been a mixed bag for some; a few have mentioned underwhelming dishes that weren't up to scratch, like cold wraps or reheated roasts, which could put a dampener on things. It's not ideal if you're out with little ones, as it seems more tailored to grown-ups or teens. All in all, I'd say it's worth dropping by for a pint and a chat, but maybe keep meal expectations in check and stick to the drinks if you're after something straightforward – that way, you're in for a balanced night out.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • It's really affordable, with meals like a roast dinner for just under £15, making it a great spot for a budget-friendly bite.
  • The staff are friendly and welcoming, creating that cosy pub atmosphere where you feel right at home.
  • If you're into sports, they've got Sky and TNT Sports showing all the action, perfect for a lively evening with mates.
  • They host fun events like quiz nights and bingo, which add a bit of excitement and keep things buzzing.
  • It's conveniently located in the heart of Chelmsford, easy to pop into after work or while out and about.
Cons
  • The food can be a bit hit or miss, with some reports of dishes being frozen or not properly heated, which is a real letdown.
  • It might not be the best choice for families with young children, as a few experiences suggest it's more suited to adults or older groups.
  • Special occasions could fall flat, like one disappointing Christmas meal surrounded by funeral flowers and cold food.
  • The overall vibe seems to have dipped a bit over time, with some saying it's lost that initial spark since reopening.

Was starving on our way back from our day trip. Stumbled on the globe pub. Was so pleased they were serving food at home 4pm on a Sunday. A roast dinner and pudding was £14.99. I didn't expect much at that price! Well it was really really tasty. Would most definatley recommend.

An honest pub with friendly staff and a decent pint. Popped in with the wife and kids as we were staying close by over the Easter weekend. Fed the four of us for a very reasonable 45quid and had a couple of rounds of drinks on top. Worked a few bars in my time so can kinda tell when a pub keeps a good cellar and it was a nice crisp tasting pint so extra points for that! Food was good, arrived in a timely manner and four clean plates so no complaints at all.

Where do I begin? The pub was at its peak when it reopened and has been slowly dying down. The food is quite underwhelming. I not long ago had a wake hosted there and selected some sides to be on a table, and a quiche was frozen in the middle. The head chef has also been seen reheating Sunday roast meat in the microwave and served it to a customer. The pub, in general, is known for people doing drugs in the bathrooms, etc. And the staff they hire is a joke. I really advise don't bring your children here.

Wouldn’t even leave 1 star !!! Booked for a Xmas meal - not quite the festive vibe we were hoping for , surrounded by funeral flowers . My roasted vegetable tortillas was a bit of salad in a cold wrap . Would honesty give the place a wide birth !!

An average pub I can’t recommend if you’re expecting them to cater for a family with young children. If you’re looking for a place to watch sports, have teenagers, or just want to have a drink at a “local” this place would be an easy 4 stars on a good day (loses a star for average food- the starters are very good but the mains let it down unfortunately). I will give kudos to the pub for being willing to redeem themselves when I first rated this place 2 stars (after a bad experience) but can’t score it higher than a 3 in our particular instance. By all means come here if you want to watch sports with a beer garden and play snooker, darts or slots, but if you have a young family there are better options in the vicinity
