About This Pub

Ah, the Priory – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper community hub in Scunthorpe, you know? From what I've gathered chatting about it, the staff are absolute gems; they're so attentive and make you feel genuinely cared for, which is just what you want after a long day. The food's a real winner too – hearty, well-priced dishes that hit the spot, whether you're tucking into a steak or some fish and chips. And let's not forget the buzz around events like quiz nights and sports on the telly; it's brilliant for gathering with friends or even bringing the dog along for a pint in the beer garden. On the flip side, though, it's clear the place has seen better days – there are a few tatty spots with holes and cobwebs that could use some TLC, and it might feel a bit nippy inside on chillier nights. Overall, it's a solid choice if you're after a laid-back spot for good grub and a laugh, but if you're hoping for something more upscale, you might want to keep looking. Still, with all those weekly deals and a welcoming atmosphere, I'd say it's worth popping in for a proper British pub experience.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly welcoming and attentive, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.
  • The food is spot on – think sizzling steaks and classic fish and chips, all at great value for a casual night out.
  • It's got a lively vibe with fun events like quiz nights and live sports screenings, perfect for catching up with mates.
  • Pet-friendly setup means you can bring your furry friend along, which is a lovely touch for dog lovers.
  • Plenty of amenities like a beer garden, WiFi, and even deals throughout the week to keep things exciting.
Cons
  • The decor feels a bit worn out, with some areas showing signs of neglect like holes in the walls and cobwebs that could do with a good tidy-up.
  • It can get a tad chilly inside, especially in the bar area, which might put a damper on things on cooler evenings.
  • While it's a solid spot for a relaxed pint and a bite, it's not exactly a fancy destination, so if you're after something more polished, it might not hit the mark.

Quiz night on Monday evening - we didn't play because we just went to meet friends, but it looked like a great quiz, really interactive with loads of different sections and all the questions come up on the screen. You can also see after each question which teams answered correctly the fastest! We had some drinks and a couple of side dishes (chips and onion rings) which were all great - good service from the staff and the whole place was clean and not too busy. Just what you want from a local pub.

I think it's amazing because the food is amazing, there is good staff, it's pet friendly. Dogs are aloud there, there is always somthing to wach on the tv. Every Thursday there is card bingo and I like to listen to people playing and listening out to who wins the money.

Didn't eat there as only went to meet friends. The whole pub is in dire need of a refurb, holes in walls and ceilings (covered in damp or beer that had been thrown or both) , cobwebs everywhere, tired decor and cold (warmer in the toilet than the bar area). Beer was fine and priced pretty much as other bars in town.

We're not locals but popped in for dinner as we were in the area. The staff Chris and Beth (hope I got that right guys) were incredibly welcoming, attentive and I genuinely felt they really cared about there customers experience. The food was great and amazing value for money, I highly recommend the steak n ale pie chips n peas ( with proper gravy). All in all I highly recommend this place. We'll done guys great job 👍👍👍. If we are in Scunthorpe again we will definitely pop in for a beer and a bite.

We enjoyed the food and the beer and the bartender was charming. It is not a 'destination' pub so don't expect the Savoy. But if you are looking for a sports pub with good beer it may be worth a visit.
