About This Pub
Ah, The Chancel – it's one of those local spots that really hits the mark for a good night out. From the reviews, it sounds like they've got the food side sorted, with people going on about how delicious their curries are and how attentive the staff are, always ready with a smile and quick service. The live music adds a fun, energetic feel, and that beer garden seems ideal for soaking up the sun with a pint or two. Prices are fair too, making it easy on the wallet for a proper meal and drinks. On the flip side, it's a bit of a mixed bag; there was that unfortunate tale of a Christening gone wrong, with grub that was apparently awful and the outside area looking neglected and messy. Still, with most folks giving it high marks and an overall solid rating, I'd say it's worth popping in if you're nearby – just maybe check it out on a regular evening rather than for something special. All in all, it's got that warm, community feel, but like any place, it's not perfect, so keep your expectations balanced and you'll likely have a great time.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are incredibly friendly and attentive, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in
-
The food is a real highlight – especially their freshly made curries like the chicken bhuna, which folks rave about as top-notch
-
It's a brilliant spot for live music, adding a lively buzz to the evenings
-
The beer garden is lovely with plenty of seats, perfect for a relaxed catch-up on a nice day
-
Prices are spot on for what you get, like a full meal with drinks for under £40, which feels like great value
Cons
-
There have been complaints about the place not always being as tidy as it could be, with one person mentioning overgrown weeds and full ashtrays outside
-
Food quality can vary; one experience was absolutely dire for an event, describing it as disgusting and the venue as filthy overall
-
It lacks a proper online presence, like no website, which might make it trickier to check details or book ahead

Great live music venue.
Friendly staff
1st time going to Chancel pub for food and it won't be the last. Just had the best chicken bhuna of my life(freshly made may I add) and I've had a few 😁. Service was spot on really polite and attentive staff. Me and the wife had a starter to share and the 2 chicken bhuna's (which also came with rice, skin on chips and a naan bread) a couple of pints and a pint of coke and spent just under £40.
Would highly recommend.
Went for dinner today with the hubby and the food was amazing! Had a halloumi fries 😋 followed by chicken bhuna, (freshly made) naan bread, rice and home made chips with 2 pints of beer and a coke for less than £40. Very polite staff and nice atmosphere. Will be back!
Nice place, good beer garden, lots of seats. Hear the food is nice but haven't tried it.
My daughter hired the venue for a Christening. Food absolutely disgusting, outside area which we had use of was overgrown with tall weeds, ash trays full with cigarette butt's, overall the place was filthy. Not even worth one star!
