About This Pub

You know, when I think about Port Street Beer House, it just brings a smile – it's one of those places that really captures the heart of what makes a great pub in Manchester. Tucked away in the Northern Quarter, it's been serving up an incredible array of craft beers and real ales since 2011, with options from local gems to international favourites that keep things endlessly interesting. The staff are an absolute delight; they're so engaging and patient, especially when you're umming and ahhing over your choice, which makes the whole experience feel personal and welcoming. Then there are the events – like the Christmas quiz with a free pint for the first timers or the book swap sessions – they add such a lovely touch, turning a simple pint into a proper social occasion. The outdoor seating and beer garden are spot on for sunnier days, and with extra space upstairs, it's easy to find your spot whether you're with a group or flying solo. On the flip side, I've heard a few grumbles about the toilets not quite living up to the rest of the place, which is a shame and something that might need sorting to keep everything tip-top. All in all, it's a solid choice for anyone after a relaxed, beer-focused outing – just pop in with an open mind and you're bound to have a memorable time.

Port Street Beer House opened in early 2011 and was the first of modern beer bars in the Northern Quarter, transforming a backstreet retail space into a vibrant pub. Outdoor seating at the front and a beer garden at the rear, with more seating on the first floor. The only downside is that the toilets are upstairs, which can create problems if you are disabled. Manchester illustrator David Bailey’s large cartoon mural on the exterior and framed prints inside add to the character of the pub. A great selection of draught and keg beers from 4% pale ales to 11% imperial stouts. When I visited, there was a 20% cask beer discount from noon to 4 PM, Monday to Friday.

Excellent place for craft beer. I had a 90 Shilling on the Union, a collaboration between Odell (Colorado) and Thornbridge (Derbyshire).

The original Manchester craft beer bar. It's a fantastic place for any beer lover. They've been serving the best selection of locally and imported beer for years. The staff are always brilliant and very patient while I spend way too long choosing my pint. Thank you for another lovely visit.

I always make an effort to visit here, it’s my favourite pub and well worth the 45 minute train journey! Nice staff and they always have decent beers on tap which are always changing and have a lot of bottles to choose from as well. There are board games and snacks too for those who fancy that.
