About This Pub
Ah, Gullivers – it's one of those places that just feels like a proper old-school haunt in the heart of Manchester, with its history stretching back to 1865, and it's still buzzing with energy today. I love how it's become a go-to for live music, whether it's an intimate gig upstairs in the Ballroom or something more low-key in the Lounge; the sound's spot on, and it's clear they support up-and-coming artists, which adds a real sense of community. The beers are a highlight too – think excellent J.W. Lees options that go down a treat, and at inexpensive prices, it's easy to settle in for the evening. On the flip side, though, there are a few quirks; one mate mentioned the barman getting a bit carried away with dancing and singing, which might make you chuckle or cringe depending on your mood. And let's not gloss over the toilets – they're functional but could do with a spruce-up, so it's not all polished perfection. Overall, if you're up for a laid-back night with good tunes and affordable drinks, Gullivers is worth a punt, but go in with realistic expectations for the rougher edges.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
It's got that classic, historic vibe with roots going back to 1865, making it a real gem in Manchester's Northern Quarter.
-
The live music scene is brilliant – they've got spaces for gigs and performances, and from what I've heard, the sound quality is top-notch.
-
Prices are really reasonable, so you can enjoy a pint or catch an event without breaking the bank.
-
The beer selection is spot on, especially the J.W. Lees ales; plenty of folks rave about them.
-
It's a welcoming spot that supports local artists and grassroots events, which gives it a lovely community feel.
Cons
-
Some staff might come across as a bit over-the-top, like that barman who was dancing and singing along to music – it could feel a tad cringe for some.
-
The toilets aren't exactly luxurious; you'll need to brace yourself for a bit of a rustic experience.
-
It can be quiet at times, which is great if you want peace, but might not hit the spot if you're after a buzzing crowd every visit.

One of my favourite places, empty during my visit (which is more than ideal). Unfortunately the pronoun, hipster barman was dancing and singing along to his virgin grime music. Painfully, gut creasingly cringe cakeness. I did enjoy my half a swiggle sauce mouthful and will be returning at the earliest availability.
Came for a gig. Excellent sound, excellent beer. Great location
My first visit in many years despite visiting the Castle pub opposite fairly often. A lovely two room pub with booth seating in the front bar area and a traditional back room. They had two JW Lees real ales on sale but Albrecht treated me to a pint of Guinness. Very good. He had San Miguel.
Nice pub. Had a half of Manchester Pale Ale (MPA) by J.W. Lees. I've read this is a popular music venue as well. Enjoyed the mosaic of Steve Shy.
A small old pub with a very nice owner. Good beer 🍺 You have to get used to the toilets. 😅 But otherwise highly recommended. 👍
