About This Pub

Ah, Pogue Mahon's – it's one of those places that just pulls you in with its genuine Irish charm right in the heart of Norwich. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the staff really go the extra mile to make everyone feel welcome, like you're chatting with old mates behind the bar, which adds such a nice touch to the whole experience. The food's a winner too; think hearty Sunday roasts with perfectly crispy potatoes and generous portions, or that bottomless brunch that's become a bit of a legend – it's all about good value and flavours that leave you satisfied. And let's not forget the drinks and the atmosphere; with live music, sports on the telly, and spots like The Drunk Tank for a moody late-night vibe, it's ideal for everything from a casual date night to a full-on party. On the flip side, though, it's a shame food's only on offer Thursday through Sunday, so if you're popping in mid-week, you might be limited to just drinks. Plus, it does get packed at times, which can mean a wait for a table, and the varying opening hours might catch you out if you're not checking ahead. All in all, it's a solid choice for us pub lovers – worth a visit for the good times, but keep those little niggles in mind to set your expectations right.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are absolutely brilliant – they're so friendly and attentive, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
  • The food is a real highlight; their bottomless brunch and Sunday roasts are spot on, with generous portions and flavours that hit the spot every time.
  • It's got a cracking atmosphere, like stepping into a cosy Irish haven with live music, entertainment, and just the right level of buzz without being overwhelming.
  • The drinks selection is top-notch, including great cocktails and proper pints, perfect for a relaxed catch-up or a lively night out.
  • Being spread over four floors with options like Magoo's bar for functions and The Drunk Tank for late-night fun adds a fun variety to the experience.
Cons
  • Food is only available from Thursday to Sunday, which might disappoint if you're after a mid-week meal.
  • It can get pretty busy, especially on weekends, so you might have to wait for a table or deal with a bit of a crowd.
  • The operating hours seem a tad inconsistent based on what's listed, which could lead to confusion if you're planning a visit.
  • While the music and entertainment are great, it might feel a bit too lively for those after a quiet pint now and then.

Had a bottomless brunch yesterday, and it was brilliant! The drinks were really good, and came in good time. We all chose burgers and they were delicious, it was a big meal! The staff were attentive and friendly. There was music on, but not too loud that you can't talk, which was a good level. Highly recommended.

Had a lovely date night at Pogue Mahon's on Sunday 6th April. Fab Irish pub feels like being welcomed into a family home, super welcoming and generous landlord and friendly, helpful and entertaining bar team. Happy fun atmosphere. Chose it because we're avid fans of the foreign locals, who were as awesome and entertaining as always. These two can make a hell of a big sound and always get us up and dancing reliving our youth. Joe is just hilarious. The food... exceptional, enormous portions, roast is generous, super tasty, comes with all the trimmings you could ever dream of, all cooked to absolute perfection. Sticky toffee pudding to die for. Good value. Will be back to try another night.

We had an absolutely amazing Sunday roast at Pogue Mahon’s! The food was cooked to perfection—tender, flavorful meats, perfectly crispy roast potatoes, and delicious homemade Yorkshire puddings. The portions were generous, and every bite was packed with comforting, rich flavors. The atmosphere was fantastic, with a warm and welcoming pub feel that made for a perfect Sunday afternoon. The staff were friendly, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed. Adding to the experience, The Rugby was playing in the background, creating a brilliant atmosphere that made the meal even more enjoyable. If you’re looking for a top-notch Sunday roast in a great setting, I highly recommend Pogue Mahon’s. And the Baby Guinness We’ll definitely be back!
