About This Pub
Ah, the Poacher – it's one of those local gems in Blackrod that really hits the spot for a relaxed pint and a chat. I've got to say, the friendly atmosphere is what stands out most; it's that kind of place where you pop in for a quick one and end up staying for hours, especially with the sports on the telly drawing in the crowd. They're ace at showing the big matches, so if you're into your footie or rugby, it's a brilliant spot to cheer on the team with a cold beer. The staff are usually spot on, making you feel like a regular from day one, and don't get me started on the drinks – that Guinness is an absolute winner, and there's a good variety to keep things interesting. Plus, the beer garden is a lovely spot for when the weather's playing ball, and those historical bits and bobs inside add a nice touch of nostalgia. On the flip side, though, service isn't always perfect; I've heard tales of the odd grumpy face behind the bar, which can put a bit of a dampener on things if you're not lucky. Overall, it's a solid choice for a night out, but it's worth keeping in mind that it shines brightest when the vibe is right – pop in for the matches or a casual meet-up, and you'll likely have a great time, but maybe steer clear if you're after faultless service every time.

Cons
-
Service can sometimes fall flat, like when a server might be having an off day and not quite make you feel as welcome as you'd hope.
-
It might not always buzz with events or offers, so if you're after something extra lively, it could feel a tad quiet at times.

Great pub, friendly atmosphere. Such a good night.
Great friendly standard pub.
Best pint of Guinness I’ve had!
Brilliant bar staff, lovely owners. Absolutely cracking place. Bringing back cask and the pub to its full glory.
Since Helen took over the pub is now absolutely buzzing.. it's clean it's back to how the pub should be!
Nice little pub with a spacious beer garden, but unfortunately the lady who served us was as miserable as sin maybe she had a bad day but at the end of the day that shouldn't stop good customer service should it?😕 if you want people's custom then at least make them feel welcome!
Very nice atmosphere lots of interesting things to look at inside old historical pictures funny quotes bar memorabilia. Friendly staff plenty of room and corners for your own space. Lots of selection on the bar also and customer toilet too. Car park at back and decent outside sitting area. Also several screens with sports on. Very good
