About This Pub

Ah, the Plough Inn – it's one of those pubs that really captures the heart of a good British local, isn't it? From what I've gathered, it's all about that welcoming vibe where the staff go out of their way to make you feel part of the gang, and the drinks are spot on, especially if you're partial to a pint of Guinness. The beer garden is a real gem when the sun's out, offering a comfy spot to unwind with mates and maybe even catch some live entertainment in the warmer months. They've got these delightful snacks like pork scratchings that just hit the spot alongside your drink. On the flip side, though, it's worth noting that they can be a tad strict with their rules – things like not allowing outside drinks, which has left a few visitors feeling a bit miffed or even watched through the CCTV. Still, overall, it's a solid choice for a relaxed night out, as long as you go in with the right expectations and respect the house rules. I'd say it's perfect for those cosy catch-ups, but maybe not ideal if you're after a completely laid-back, no-fuss affair.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly welcoming and create a real sense of community, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
  • They've got a cracking selection of drinks, with the Guinness being a standout favourite among the regulars.
  • The beer garden is a lovely spot when the weather's on your side, complete with a covered area and a relaxed vibe for enjoying a pint outdoors.
  • Tasty snacks like those warm pork scratchings are an absolute treat and add to the cosy, traditional pub feel.
  • There's a great lineup of events and live entertainment, especially in the summer, which keeps things lively and gives you something to look forward to.
Cons
  • Some folks have had issues with strict rules about bringing in outside drinks, which can put a damper on the evening if you're not prepared.
  • There's a sense that the place is being watched closely via CCTV, which might make you feel a bit self-conscious rather than fully relaxed.
  • Not every visit goes smoothly, as a few people have left feeling unwelcome due to these policies, even if they weren't causing any bother.

Shaun, Lisa and the team (not forgetting the pub dogs Amber and Ozzy!) do an amazing job of creating a friendly and inviting pub! The guiness is cracking and great selection of crisps (pork scratchings are to die for) ❤️❤️

Great pub, proper cosy local. First visit and made to feel really welcome. Great range of snacks and drinks. Warm scratchings are a must. Can’t wait for the live entertainment in the summer months!

Me and a group of friends came to this lovely establishment for a drink. How wrong we were to do so. When we arrived, things seemed to start off normal: we got in, got drinks, and sat down. We engaged in conversation for a while until another one of our friends arrived. He went inside to get himself and another one of our friends a drink, bearing in mind that we had been asked to show ID when we purchased them, and was declined the ability to buy two drinks at once because they needed to show ID alongside him. First red flag. Around 10–15 minutes later, another one of our friends turned up with an unopened Celsius™ energy drink, and before he could even make it properly to the table to greet us, the landlord of this lovely establishment came rushing out to inform him that this drink could not be on site and must be removed promptly. My friend, politely, stated that he would not open it and it was simply for afterward. This was not good enough, and the landlord stated so. We put the drink outside of the establishment’s beer garden and left it at that. When my friend, who had just put his Celsius™ energy drink outside of the establishment, went inside to get a drink, the landlord was staring at us on the security camera as if we were going to do something wrong. The only thing that we did wrong was go to The Plough. This place is in desperate need of new management, and the landlord is in desperate need of some lessons in grace and decorum because he has about as much as a reversing dump truck without any wheels. Good day.

Came here with a group of mates but quickly left as my mate was barked at for bringing an (unopened, mind you) energy drink can with no intention of drinking it in the beer garden. We were also told that the landlord was watching us on the CCTV despite only just arriving and causing no issues in the very short time we were there. Very bizarre individual who appears to be running the place. Made our time there very awkward and we left soon after.
