About This Pub

Ah, the Pheasant – it's one of those cosy spots in Birstall that feels like a proper community hub, you know? From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the food is a real winner; think juicy cheese and bacon burgers or that succulent gammon that's got folks raving. It's all about fresh, flavourful meals that make you want to linger over a pint. The service is spot on too – friendly staff who make you feel right at home, and the place is always tidy, which is a nice touch for popping in with the family or even the dog. They've got great setups for watching live sports, like the upcoming Women's Euros, so it's perfect if you're into that. On the downside, it can get a bit frustrating with waits for food, especially on quieter nights when you'd expect things to run smoothly, and there have been a few moans about dishes not being hot enough or properly cooked. Still, with such a solid overall rating, I'd say it's worth giving it a go – just keep an eye on the time and maybe go when it's not too hectic. All in all, it's a solid choice for a bite and a bevvy with mates, balancing the good times with a bit of realism.

Lovely little gem on a quiet weekday, food was superb. Husband said it was the most succulent gammon he'd had for a long time. Very clean and the service was outstanding

Waiting over an hour for food. Not the bar staffs fault but totally unacceptable especially on a week night. We've eaten at the pheasant quite a few times and the food was great and we didn't have long to wait, but unfortunately on this occasion my potatoes were rock hard, veg was cold and the gammon was overcooked, as it was a celebratory night , we were really disappointed. Obviously, whoever was kitchen staff can't cope with multiple orders.

I’ve visited this place twice now, and I’ll definitely be coming back! The food is unbelievably fresh and bursting with flavor—huge bravo to the chef! 🧑‍🍳 Every dish feels like it’s made with care, and the quality is just top-notch. Not only is the food amazing, but the place itself is spotless, which makes the whole experience even better. The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, creating such a warm and inviting atmosphere. It’s rare to find a restaurant that nails both great food and great service, but they do it effortlessly! Highly recommend to anyone who appreciates delicious, high-quality food in a clean and friendly setting. Can’t wait for my next visit!

First time visiting Pheasant in well over a year and I have to say its so much better since the last time I was here, it was like being in a different pub. Didn’t have any food this time round but the menu seemed great and we will come back to try some of the new offerings. I asked the guy behind the bar if he could put the Leeds Rhinos game on for me which was no problem for him at all which I was so thankful for! The only thing that could make a trip to the pheasant better would be a better selection of ciders for my partner. ✨
