About This Pub

Ah, the Ambrose Hotel – it's one of those places that really grows on you once you get past the initial impressions. I have to say, what stands out most is how the staff go out of their way to make you feel welcome; it's like chatting with old mates right from the off. The rooms are straightforward but spotlessly clean, and having extras like a microwave and fridge handy makes life a bit easier if you're staying over. Plus, their food menu doesn't disappoint – those pizzas and burgers are proper belters, full of flavour and just what you fancy after a day out. On the brighter side, the atmosphere buzzes with friendly locals, and if you're into sports, the view of the rugby pitch is a nice bonus that could make your visit memorable. But, let's be honest, it's not all perfect; the building does feel a tad worn around the edges, like it hasn't had a full makeover in a while, which might put you off if you're after something more polished. And if you're sensitive to noise, the pub downstairs can get a bit rowdy, turning what should be a peaceful evening into a restless one. Oh, and those kitchen hours can be a pain – you might find yourself scouting for other spots to grab a bite, especially if breakfast isn't your thing until later. All in all, it's a solid choice for a laid-back night or a budget-friendly stay, but I'd suggest weighing up those pros and cons before popping in, as it'll suit some more than others.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
  • Rooms are clean and comfortable, with some nice little touches like having a microwave and fridge on the landing for convenience.
  • They serve up some cracking food, especially the pizzas and burgers, which have been a hit with visitors.
  • It's got a lively atmosphere with friendly locals, and the location near Barrow rugby pitch adds a fun element for sports fans.
Cons
  • The place feels a bit dated and could do with some freshening up to make it feel more modern.
  • Noise from the pub below can be a real nuisance, especially if you're trying to get a good night's sleep.
  • Kitchen hours are quite limited, so you might end up having to head elsewhere for a meal if you're there at the wrong time.
  • Breakfast doesn't kick off until 9 AM, which might be a drag if you're an early riser or have places to be.

Crazy Kitchen in Barrow is hands down one of the best spots for pizza and burgers! The pizzas are perfectly cooked with a crispy crust and a variety of toppings that cater to all tastes. Each bite is bursting with flavor, making it hard to resist ordering another slice. When it comes to burgers, Crazy Kitchen does not disappoint either. They serve juicy, flavorful patties topped with fresh ingredients, all sandwiched between soft, toasted buns. The combination of flavors and textures is simply unbeatable. If you're looking for a place that offers both amazing pizzas and burgers, Crazy Kitchen is definitely the place to go!

Lovely place to stay friendly staff and very welcoming people the rooms were clean and really comfortable we stayed in a quadruple room with a double bed and 2 singles we had a view of barrow rugby pitch from our room which my daughter thought was fantastic as she was able to watch a training session in the morning. The location is ideal for access to the town centre barrow retail park dock museum an the walney island this is definitely going to be our first choice of accommodation on our regular visits to barrow great place and fantastic price. I also noticed a microwave on the middle landing which I think was for guests to use. There is also a nice little play park over the road which my daughter really enjoyed spending time on

Had a great stay here. Everything worked well, had to turn down the heating but great you could do this. Worried about the noise from the pub on the first night, which is to be expected from a pub, and thankfully it stopped at 11.45. Staff were all very nice, and the kitchen in the Ambrise sold delicious food, if you have a good appetite your in for a treat, the portion sizes are massive, even some of the starters are like a main meal. Weren't keen on the breakfast sausage, don't know what make they were but not complaining and very dog friendly 👏 😀
