About This Pub
Ah, the Old Thatched Inn, what a lovely little find in Stanton under Bardon! I've got to say, it's one of those pubs that just feels like a second home from the moment you walk in. The atmosphere is so relaxed and inviting, with friendly faces behind the bar who make you feel like you're catching up with old mates. The food really stands out – that carvery is a winner, with everything tasting fresh and homemade, and don't even get me started on the cheesecake; it's heavenly and a must-try if you're popping by. Plus, it's brilliant for those who bring their dogs along, as it's fully welcoming to furry friends, and the beer garden is a treat on a sunny day. On the flip side, while the grub is generally top-notch, I have heard a couple of folks mention the beef being a bit overcooked now and then, so it might not hit the mark every time for everyone. And, like any good pub, it can get a bit lively on busier days, which might mean a short wait, but honestly, that's part of the charm. All in all, if you're after a straightforward, enjoyable spot for a meal and a drink, this one's worth seeking out – I'd pop in without a second thought!
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The food is absolutely spot-on, with the carvery and homemade cheesecake stealing the show – fresh, tasty, and just what you fancy after a long walk.
-
It's a proper dog-friendly spot, making it ideal for popping in with your four-legged mate for a relaxed pint and a chat.
-
The staff are genuinely welcoming and friendly, always ready with a smile and a bit of banter to make you feel right at home.
-
There's a lovely beer garden for enjoying a drink outdoors when the weather's playing nice, perfect for soaking up the village atmosphere.
-
Prices are spot on for a good-value outing, so you can have a hearty meal without breaking the bank.
Cons
-
One thing I've heard is that the beef in the carvery can sometimes be a bit overdone, though it's still quality meat and doesn't spoil the experience much.
-
It might get a tad busy on weekends, which could mean waiting a bit for your food or a table, but that's often the case with popular spots.

Great dog friendly pub. Staff were excellent and there was a nice relaxed atmosphere.
The carvery was excellent, everything tasted fresh. Beef was a bit overdone for my taste, but to be honest I still really enjoyed it because it was good quality meat and wasn’t dried out.
Highly recommended.
Great food, but I would recommend you save room to try the cheesecake, it's homemade and amazing! 😋 😍 difficult to decide which cheesecake is the best, as they're all delicious! Family and dog friendly pub, a great night or day out, just catching up with people and chatting, or playing pool and darts, also check out singers and events happening, as it's a great atmosphere! Thanks Cindy, Mark and the team you have made the village pub a nice place to be and the village wouldn't be the same, without you...
I came here today for the Christmas carvery with 4 friends. The food was delicious, you could tell that everything was home made/fresh. The cheesecake is also to die for, it has a lovely atmosphere and the land lady is really nice. To top it all off, the prices were so reasonable! We all had a carvery, dessert and 2-3 drinks and paid less than £30. Would recommend!
Charming village pub with a welcoming staff and a fairly extensive menu. There is ample parking to the rear and the opening hours are good. Outside seating is available and the surrounding area’s walks are excellent.
Well! Almost 5 decades of Sunday Dinners and I can quite honestly say, I've found THE home of Sunday Roasts. Everything was cooked to perfection. The meat drops off the fork and melts in your mouth. The roast potatoes were crispy on the outside & soft in the middle. The veg was tender with a slight bite.... Just PERFECT!
As for the homemade desserts. My taste buds were in heaven. They're out of this world.
By far the best we've ever had!
