About This Pub

Ah, the Bricklayers Arms – it's one of those classic village pubs that just warms your heart from the moment you step in. I love how the landlord and landlady go out of their way to make everyone feel at home; it's like chatting with pals over a pint. The beer selection is spot on, with some lovely local options that really hit the spot, and that beer garden is an absolute treat on a nice day, especially if you've got the family in tow with the play area to keep the kids entertained. Come winter, that real fire makes it the coziest spot imaginable for a quiet evening. On the downside, though, the food isn't always up to par – I've heard tales of a chicken burger that was a bit underwhelming and seemed a little skimpy, and there have been times when the kitchen was out of action, which is a shame if you're hoping for a proper meal. Still, for a relaxed drink and a genuine community feel, it's a solid choice that I'd recommend giving a go, as long as you keep your expectations in check for the grub.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff, especially the landlord and landlady, are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making every visit feel like catching up with old mates.
  • They've got a cracking selection of beers, including local ones, which is perfect for a proper pint after a long day.
  • The beer garden is spacious and well-kept, with a kids' play area, ideal for families on a sunny afternoon.
  • There's a real fire in the winter that adds a cosy, homely touch, just right for those chilly evenings.
  • Plenty of parking available, which makes it easy to pop in without the hassle of finding a spot.
Cons
  • Food can be a bit hit or miss; one mention of a disappointing chicken burger that felt a tad cheap and lost in the bun.
  • Sometimes they don't have food on offer, like during kitchen renovations, which might leave you wanting more than just a drink.
  • It can get quiet at times, especially during the day, so if you're after a lively buzz, it might not always deliver.
  • Portions for food seemed small in some reviews, making it feel like it's more suited for a light lunch rather than a hearty meal.

Was quiet when we went, lunchtime. The bar staff member explained the kitchen was being renovated, no food service that day, so we just had a coffee and a coke. Nice straightforward place with good parking

We attended this lovely village pub yesterday afternoon and what a wonderful experience we had. The landlady and landlord are very friendly welcoming and accommodating. The pub itself is lovely and has a true village feel about it. The beer garden is lovely spacious and well maintained especially given this was the first true sunny day of the year. Outdoor seating was plentiful and the grounds were lovely. We had a wonderful afternoon sat outdoors enjoying the sun and a beer and a lovely evening later indoors. I highly recommend this village pub to all and we will all be spending many of a Saturday and Sunday afternoon here. Thank-you team for a lovely day/evening and Thank-you for your lovely hospitality. We all look forward to join you again very soon.

Great pub! Landlord Paul and landlady Bex are so friendly and helpful. Good beer, good atmosphere. Real fire in the winter and lovely garden for the summer, with kids' play area. We are so lucky to have this as our local.

Park here and walked around the reservoir before calling in for a drink. Five Everards beer on offer, plus others. Would like to call back for Sunday lunch.

Reasonably priced for what you got. The plate was small, but for lunch it was fine. The chicken burger was disappointing, it looked lost in the bun and just tasted cheap, sorry. The sandwiches coming out looked much tastier, next time I'm ordering one. The chips were cooked to perfection. We shared a home made banoffe pie which was lovely, very tasty and not to sweet. Overall, i think i'd rather pay a little more and get better quality. Peas/fresh salad. Cheers. Staff nice and friendly
