About This Pub

Ah, the Old Irish Harp – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper hidden gem in the Walsall area, tucked away near some lovely golf clubs and green fields. I've got to say, it's a real winner for anyone after a relaxed meal or a catch-up with mates; the food is spot on, with pub favourites done just right, like a cracking roast on Sundays or those surprise dishes that leave you smiling. The staff are genuinely lovely, always up for a chat and making sure you're looked after, which makes it perfect for family outings or even bringing along the dog. That beer garden is an absolute delight when the weather's playing ball, giving you a chance to unwind outdoors. On the flip side, it's not the cheapest spot around, so you might want to keep an eye on the bill if you're watching the pennies. And while most visits are smooth sailing, there have been times when service could be a bit more on point, like not getting proactive with drinks or table setups. Overall, though, it's a solid choice for a good night out – I'd pop in for one of those deals and see for yourself; you might just end up making it your regular haunt.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely spot on – think hearty pub classics with generous portions and flavours that really hit the mark, like those triple-cooked chips or a proper roast dinner.
  • Service is top-notch; the staff are warm and welcoming, always ready to make small adjustments to your meal or ensure you have everything you need.
  • It's a lovely family-friendly spot with a cosy, modern interior and a cracking beer garden that's perfect for soaking up the sunshine with a pint.
  • They've got some great offers, like 30% off mains, which makes it feel like a real treat without breaking the bank too much.
  • The atmosphere is relaxed and inviting, ideal for everything from a quiet drink to celebrating special occasions.
Cons
  • Prices can be a tad higher than your average pub, so it might not be the go-to for a cheeky budget night out.
  • Service isn't always flawless – sometimes you might have to chase for drinks or sort out seating yourself, which can put a slight dampener on things.
  • There have been mentions of past experiences not living up to expectations, though it seems they've turned things around recently.

Excellent service friendly approach and willing to accommodate slight changes to meals which helps with ensuring meals are thoroughly enjoyed. Food is always good, portions are decent and presentation as well as flavours are on point. The price might be a little higher than your average pub but quality is better. They send out regular offers that are well worth using.. we will certainly be going again.

Wanted somewhere nice to celebrate my daughter's engagement. Table booked for 12 guest. We were seated at a table that was too small, so were moved. No one, through out the whole meal, came and asked if we wanted drinks. We went to the bar to order. I had to get up and get the menus myself and hand them out. One starter arrived incomplete and the missing item was bought out separately. One of the mains had a side order of peppercorn sauce, the pot was on the plate but it was empty. No server approached our table. No empty glasses were collected. Very disappointed, place seems to have gone down hill since the last time I was there.

Had a fantastic visit to The Old Irish Harp! The food and service were absolutely first class. Special shoutout to Ryan, Nicky, Emily and Steve the chief all diligent, very hard working and incredibly attentive and made sure we had everything we needed throughout our time there. The fish and chips, as well as the scampi, come highly recommended — both were cooked to perfection. The venue itself has a great atmosphere, very welcoming and friendly, and it’s even dog friendly, which is a big bonus. Highly recommend for a relaxed meal or a drink with friends (and your four-legged companions)!

I actually visited 17/4 in friends (first time in 2-3 years after a poor experience). It was so good, I told y husband and we went on the 21st. Firstly the greeting is warm and friendly by EVERY member of staff.A very warm welcome like they are genuinely pleased to see you. They bring the menu and ask if you’d like to order drinks, which they bring and leave you just the right amount of time to peruse the menu. The gentleman who took our orders on both occasions, who I think is the front of house manager, is so friendly and ready to give advice and recommendations on the food. I had the whitebait and the steak and ale pie, and the signature triple layer pie on the previous visit. My husband had the sticky chicken wings and the pie - all were sensational. The food arrived quickly on both occasions and was piping hot. We’re offered sauces, vinegars, etc and asked if there was anything else we needed. Honestly you have a great, friendly team in there who obviously enjoy working there and it shows. I would give them ten stars if I could. And yes we left a tip on both occasions.

Went for Mother's Day. Great little pub, lovely food really helpful and polite staff. Probably one of the best roast dinners I've had in a pub style restaurant 😋.
