About This Pub

Ah, Oak Tree Norwich – it's one of those pubs that feels like a proper local gem, tucked away and ready to welcome you with open arms. I love how it's got that blend of traditional charm and modern touches, making it ideal for everything from a quick lunchtime bite to a lively evening with friends. The menu's a real winner, packed with comforting classics and options for those watching what they eat, all served up in a cosy setting with extras like a beer garden for sunnier days or live music to liven things up. But, let's be honest, it's not all perfect; I've heard a few grumbles about the food not always hitting the mark, especially with flavours falling flat under the new team, and the occasional service blunder that can put a dampener on your visit. Still, with its solid overall feel and those thoughtful amenities, it's worth a go if you're in the area – just keep your expectations in check for a balanced pub experience.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The atmosphere is warm and inviting, making it a perfect spot for a relaxed catch-up with mates over a pint or a meal.
  • They've got a fantastic selection of food and drinks, including pub classics, vegan and vegetarian options, real ales, and even gluten-free choices to suit all tastes.
  • Plenty of extras like a beer garden, live music, pool table, and dog-friendly vibes add to the fun, especially if you're up for watching sport or having a game.
  • Service is generally spot-on, with friendly staff and options for online bookings or contactless payments that make popping in a breeze.
Cons
  • Food quality can be hit or miss, with some folks noting a lack of flavour under the new management, which is a bit disappointing for a local favourite.
  • Occasional slip-ups in service, like running out of popular dishes or getting orders wrong, might leave you wanting a smoother experience.
  • Portions are generous, but sometimes the sides, like veggies with a main, could do with a bit more thought to balance things out properly.

We made a late decision to eat out for lunch and decided to try the Oak Tree. We were delighted that we did. We were made most welcome when we arrived, enjoyed very generous portions of tasty food in pleasant surroundings. Nice atmosphere, plenty of choice on the menu and everything arrived hot and in good time. Large car park also a bonus. Would definitely recommend!

This is our local. We've both been to this place many times together and long before we got together. However, we've noticed that the food has lacked under new magament. And we've been highly disappointed by the lack of taste in the food and flavour. We came for dinner with some family and we weren't impressed. I ate most of my meal, because it wasn't that bad and I was very hungry due to not eating a lot before the dinner. I had ham, chicken, and leek pie, which was dry, and I wasn't able to finish it. I ate all the veg and mash because I love my veg and mash. My man had these meat chobbs, but it didn't have any crackling like it said it would. And there was way too much fat attached to the meat. We got chips, which were nice. We both got desserts, I had chocolate and ice cream, which was too strong, and I wasn't able to finish it. And my man had a cheesecake with ice cream. Whcih he loved. When we've come in before to eat, we've been disappointed, with the lack of food that has been on the menu, but not in the kitchen.

First time eating here and definitely enjoyed it. We planned to have roast pork or turkey, but they didn't have any left (we were there about 2pm). So we had lamb shank, beef rib and burger instead. Everything was nicely done, just wish I had more vegetables with my beef rib. We didn't get table service, had to order at the bar. We had our dog with us, who didn't get water offered (a lot of dog friendly eateries have offered us water before). Really big car park.

Booked a table for 3 people on mothers day , we all had food from the set menu , the pork roast should of had crackling with it , i had to ask for some ! , I asked for the deluxe sticky toffee pudding with Bailey's but was given the normal one , I queried this and it had gone through on the till as a normal but the waitress brought me a miniature bottle of Baileys at no extra cost , my only other complaint is that the sticky toffee pudding was cold , I was expecting it to be hot 🤷‍♂️ . The decor is lovely as were all the staff , plenty of tables and a good sized car park , wheel chair friendly entrance 👍👍👍

I had my Mother's wake here and it exceeded all expectations. The buffet was hot and really tasty with good quality food, (we had the gold option) lovely presentation too, if you're looking for a buffet you'll be hard pressed to find anywhere better. The pub has a lovely interior and a fantastic garden out the back with heaters, there is also a front outside area. The toilets and everywhere else is very clean and well maintained....the staff are very attentive and service is always with a smile. My family and I now eat here regularly, because of the food, the Sunday roasts are delicious, with free top ups on gravy, Yorkshire's and roast potatoes. So glad to have discovered the oak tree, this place has it all!...also dog friendly. (the steak in the photograph was asked to be cooked charred, and was delicious)
