About This Pub
Ah, The York – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local gem in Norwich, you know? From what I've gathered from folks' chats, it's got this fantastic location that's dead central, making it ideal for a quick stop after exploring the area, and that spacious beer garden is just the ticket for a relaxed afternoon with mates. The drinks selection is spot on, with a great range of beers and spirits that cater to all tastes, and when the food hits the mark, like those mouthwatering Sunday roasts or the Wednesday deals, it's pure bliss – think perfectly cooked Yorkshire puds and tender meats that leave you smiling. The team behind the bar are absolute stars, always friendly and on point with their service, whether you're there for a romantic meal by the fire or a big bash like a Christmas party. But let's keep it real, it's not flawless; a few have mentioned the pub grub isn't always reliable, so you might find yourself nipping to another spot for the classics like burgers or fish and chips. Overall, it's a solid choice for a good night out, with that 4.2 rating speaking volumes about the good times had, but it's worth going in with an open mind to enjoy the highs and navigate the occasional low.
Pros and Cons

The York's got a brilliant spot in Norwich, making it super easy to pop in after a wander around the city.
-
That big beer garden is an absolute gem, perfect for soaking up the sun with a pint in hand.
-
They've got a cracking selection of beers and spirits, so there's something to tickle everyone's fancy.
-
The food can be spot on, especially the Sunday roasts and deals like the Wednesday meal offer – think tender lamb and gorgeous mussels.
-
The staff are really friendly and knowledgeable, making you feel right at home, whether it's for a cosy meal or a lively party.
Cons
-
There might be a bit of inconsistency with the food; one mate mentioned it's not always up to scratch for classic pub grub, so you might end up heading elsewhere for that.
-
It's only open five days a week, which could be a downer if you're keen on a midweek visit and find it shut.

The York is a fantastic pub, great location, lovely big beer garden, and a great range of beers and spirits to suit everyone.
The only gripe we have is the food, and regularly wander to The Unthank instead when we want the ‘pub grub’ vibe. Nothing beats the classics - burger, fish and chips, loaded fries - when enjoying some rays in a beer garden. They would really benefit from a separate bar menu that caters to this more casual alfresco dining experience! There’s even an outdoor bar that’s never open that could perfectly house this, while maintaining the gastro pub/restaurant feel indoors.
Some serious food comas going on this evening after our Sunday roast. Honestly the best I’ve had - roast potatoes and Yorkshire puddings cooked to perfection (and really that’s the hit we’re all here for).
The pork had a really good meat/fat/crackling ratio, lamb was tender and the beef was pink!
We booked The York for a valentines meal and we were utterly blown away with the food. The wine list was superb, we had a table next to the open fire, everything was perfect. The service was on point, everyone was so friendly and knowledgeable. This is exactly what a beautiful pub like The York needed. Our new favourite in the Golden Triangle.
A Fantastic Christmas Party at The York Public House, Norwich!
We recently held the NHS staff Christmas party at The York Public House, and I can't speak highly enough of the experience. From start to finish, everything was exceptional!
The bar staff were incredibly friendly and went above and beyond to help us, even assisting with transporting the disco setup to the first floor—a gesture we truly appreciated. The service throughout the evening was speedy, efficient, and always delivered with a polite and cheerful attitude.
The food was absolutely outstanding—beautifully prepared and thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. A huge thank you to the manager and the team, especially India, for making the evening so seamless and memorable.
If you're looking for a venue that combines excellent service, delicious food, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere, The York Public House is the place to be. We'll definitely be returning for future events. Thank you again for making our celebration so special!
Love the food here. Wednesday meal deal is great. £12.00 for a main course with a pint of real ale or glass of house wine included. I had mussels tonight which were absolutely gorgeous.
