About This Pub
Ah, North Westward Ho, what a spot! I've got to say, it's one of those places that just hits the mark for a good pint in Manchester. The beer range is spot on – think German lagers, British ciders, and a whole host of mixed fermentation beers and Belgian ales from Pomona Island Brewery and their guests. It's that perfect mix of feeling like a classic city boozer while offering something a bit more adventurous, which I reckon is why folks keep coming back. The service is another highlight; the team are always up for a chat and know their stuff, making you feel right at home whether it's your first time or your tenth. Plus, with those big windows flooding the place with natural light, it's ideal for a casual catch-up over a drink. On the flip side, though, it does seem like food isn't their strong suit – just a few snacks on offer, so if you're peckish for more than that, you might need to head elsewhere. And the hours can be a bit all over the place, especially on Sundays, so it's worth checking before you go. All in all, it's a solid choice for anyone after a relaxed, beer-focused outing, but keep in mind it might not tick every box if you're after a full evening out.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The beer selection is absolutely brilliant – they've got 18 keg lines and 5 cask ale lines from Pomona Island Brewery, plus guests and ciders, so there's always something exciting to try.
-
The staff are so friendly and knowledgeable; they'll help you pick the perfect pint if you're unsure, making every visit feel welcoming and personal.
-
It's got a lovely traditional pub vibe with a modern twist, complete with big windows letting in plenty of natural light, which makes it a great spot for a relaxed midday stop.
-
Being in the heart of Manchester, it's conveniently located and focuses on locally produced drinks like natural wines and cocktails, which is a nice touch for supporting local breweries.
Cons
-
The food options seem a bit limited, with just a couple of traditional snacks mentioned, so it might not be the best choice if you're after a full meal with your drinks.
-
The operating hours can vary a tad and look a bit confusing from what's listed, which might mean planning ahead to catch them at the right time.

Great Pomona Brewery house with an interesting range of cask and keg. A proper long bar, great service, plenty of room. So it feels like a traditional city boozer, but does craft ale - best of both worlds!
Been here a few times and i feel compelled to say its exceptional. Outstanding selection of beers and always accompanied with friendly, knowledgeable service.
Pub itself is beautiful and makes a good midday stop off thanks to the nice big windows, lots of natural light, where some pubs feel dingy this is breezy and casual. Great place to read a book or just have a chat and a catch up.
This has become my favourite pub. It's my first stop in Manchester. This place has so many beers , a wide choice of their own beers plus plenty of guest beers (other drinks are available). Staff are always knowledgeable and helpful when you're not sure.
This place is incredible, lovely old buildings which makes a change from the usual brewery taps, (this is pomona Island)nice gentleman behind the bar quiet but early doors on a Wednesday? Beer choices surperb!!!
Great pub for drink choices! They have a couple of traditional snacks to go with your drink of choice. A lot of their drinks are locally produced, which is nice to see. The service was also good 👍.
I can't comment on the food as we just went for drinks.
