About This Pub

Ah, MR THOMAS'S CHOP HOUSE – what a gem in the heart of Manchester, isn't it? Established way back in 1867, this place has that timeless charm with its green tiled walls and authentic decor that just draws you in. From what I've gathered from folks who've been, it's spot on for a proper British pub experience; the food's a highlight, with classics and new dishes that hit the mark, and the drinks flow nicely without breaking the bank too much. The staff are usually dead friendly, making it feel like a proper local haunt. On the flip side, though, service can be a bit off sometimes – you might find yourself waiting around, which is a shame in such a lively spot. And let's be honest, the food prices are a touch steep, so it's worth keeping an eye on your wallet if you're planning a big night. All things considered, it's a cracking choice for anyone wanting to soak up some history while enjoying a pint or a meal, but just go in with realistic expectations for the service.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The historic atmosphere is absolutely charming, with original Victorian features that make you feel like you're stepping back in time – it's a real treat if you love a bit of history with your pint.
  • The staff are genuinely friendly and polite, always ready for a quick chat, which adds to that warm, welcoming vibe.
  • They serve up some cracking British food and drinks, from classic dishes to new stunners, making it a great spot for a proper meal or just a casual drink.
  • It's deceptively spacious with plenty of room to settle in, and the overall ambience is spot on for a relaxed evening out in Manchester.
Cons
  • Service can be a tad inattentive at times, which might leave you waiting a bit longer than you'd like for that next round.
  • The prices for food are on the higher side, so it might not be the best choice if you're after something more budget-friendly in the city centre.

This is a very old establishment and has plenty of history. Very nice to come and visit if you're ever in Manchester. The walls are all green. Tiled inside. Looks very nice. If you're into historic buildings, staff are very pleasant and polite, the price for the two lagers was a pints and half and cost around £10 which is standard for pups in and around Manchester

Deceptively large pub with original decorative features. We called in for drinks and had an enjoyable time. Plenty of room to sit and a good atmosphere. Prices on a par with other city centre pubs.

Just a two night stay in Manchester and found this amazing pub through tiktok. The atmosphere was quite nice, both for drinks and for food, as the pub is split into two to cater for both. The food was great. Greatest pub food we've had in a while. The food was a bit costly. Came around 70 quid for two with starter and drink included, and a service fee. Otherwise, a definite must visit if you're visiting the Manchester city core.

I had a lovely Sunday roast here—perfectly cooked, flavourful, and exactly what you’d hope for in a rainy Sunday cozy. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, making it a great spot to relax and enjoy a meal. However, the service left something to be desired; it felt inattentive. Overall, a great place for food and ambiance, but the service could use some improvement
