About This Pub

Ah, let me tell you about the Mean Eyed Cat Bar in Liverpool – it's one of those places that really gets the blood pumping with its Deep South-inspired vibes and a nod to Johnny Cash, making it feel like a proper escape from the everyday hustle. I love how they've got that Roll the Dice game going on; it's such a laugh trying your luck for a free round, and the cocktails, shots, and pizzas are genuinely delicious – perfect for sharing with your lot over a good chat. The bottomless brunch is another winner if you're up for a sesh that goes on for hours. On the flip side, though, it's a shame about that rule on solo visitors after 9pm; it might leave you feeling a tad excluded if you're flying solo, and I've heard from a few that the bar can get overwhelmed, with staff rushing around and the odd drink order going awry. Still, with its solid 4.6 rating, it's clear most folks have a blast here, so if you're planning a group outing, it's well worth a visit – just go in with your eyes open to those little niggles for a balanced night out.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The atmosphere is absolutely buzzing – it's like stepping into a Deep South dive bar with a cheeky rock 'n' roll twist, inspired by Johnny Cash, which makes for a right lively night out.
  • They've got this brilliant Roll the Dice game where you could snag your round for free if luck's on your side – adds a fun, unpredictable edge to the evening.
  • The drinks and food are spot on; think tasty cocktails, cracking shots, and even free pizzas, plus a cracking bottomless brunch that keeps the good times flowing.
  • The staff are generally friendly and on point, making you feel welcome and sorting out any queries with a smile – it's all about that warm, community vibe.
Cons
  • They've got a strict policy not serving solo visitors after 9pm, which is a bit of a downer if you're out on your own and just want to unwind with a quiet drink.
  • Service can get stretched thin when they're short on staff, leading to mix-ups with orders and slower waits at the bar, which might frustrate you on busier nights.

Don’t bother if you’re a solo traveler. I was told they won’t serve a solo person after 9pm. Which is a shame as I liked the atmosphere, & wanted to just end my night with a nice whisky at the bar. To be clear, I wasn’t drunk or in any way anything but polite & friendly. Nothing personal he said, just a policy.

Our first time visiting Mean Eyed Cat and what a fab find. Tried a few cocktails and a couple of shots, all of which were great. Especially loved the PB&J shot! Managed to roll a 2 for each of our rounds so got a nice little discount. Tried most of the pizzas and they were all so good. Liked the nods to Johnny Cash. Staff were all friendly and welcoming. A great night and would highly recommend.

When we walked in we were greated by a helpful young lad, but for our party we only had one staff member on the bar, which must have been stressful for her as she made quite a few wrong drinks which lead to some people complaining on the night. A lot of people went to the main bar for faster service/better service. It was not the girls fault but more so the lack of staff to serve. The food was liked by everyone and the atmosphere was great, a lovely place to have a party.

Regular attendees on Friday nights a couple of times a month in Leeds. Great little free pizzas, varied music and good variety of drinks. Bar staff always helpful. Threw a six last time and our drinks were free. Recommended bar. We’ve been to the one in Liverpool aswell, similar vibe.

Had the absolute best bottomless brunch here yesterday Leah was fantastic and definitely deserves some recognition for her hard work so I hope her manager sees this! This was our first time at Mean Eyed Cat for my 30th birthday. The cocktails were flowing and we were never left without a drink, pizzas were fab! We tried them all between the 4 of us and then to top it off I rolled a 6 so got my brunch for free!! I really cannot recommend enough, thank you once again to Leah for looking after us so well. We will definitely be back soon🥳🥂🎉🎲
