About This Pub

You know, when I think about McManus Pubs, they really stand out as a solid choice for a good night out in Northamptonshire. They've been around since the 1970s, building up a collection of 19 venues that cater to all sorts, whether you're after a traditional pint in a historic spot or something a bit more modern with cocktails and hearty food. The team there seems genuinely passionate about what they do, and from what I've seen, they're quick to fix any mix-ups, like sorting out gift vouchers without a fuss. The food's generally tasty and the drinks are spot on, with that relaxed, friendly atmosphere that makes you want to linger. On the flip side, though, some mates have mentioned the costs can be a surprise – think £17 for a couple of beers and crisps, which feels a tad high for local prices. Plus, there have been times when service has been a bit hit or miss, like waiting ages for drinks or dealing with food that's not quite warm enough, especially during busy spells or events. All in all, with an overall rating hovering around 4.2, it's a place I'd recommend giving a go if you're in the area, just go in with realistic expectations and maybe avoid peak times if you're after seamless service.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and go the extra mile to sort out any issues, making you feel right at home.
  • They've got a fantastic variety of pubs, each with its own character, from cosy country inns to lively high street spots, all focused on quality food and drinks.
  • The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, perfect for catching up with mates or enjoying a relaxed meal in a community-oriented setting.
Cons
  • Prices can feel a bit steep for the area, like paying central London rates for a couple of pints and snacks in Northampton, which might put some off.
  • Service isn't always spot on, with a few reports of delays, items running out, or food not arriving piping hot when it's busy.
  • The menu could do with some tweaking to make things run smoother in the kitchen, as it's sometimes a bit overwhelming and leads to inefficiencies.

You're Company is a disgrace - charged me £17 for two pints and 3 packets of crisps - central London prices in Northampton - I will avoid your pubs from now on - absolute disgraceful organisation.

Thanks again, you got me out of a mess! I arranged for a gift voucher to be sent to a family member, then discovered I had put the wrong address. McManus Pub sorted it promptly and without fuss, lovely customer service. Thank you to Paul and the Team. If we lived closer would definitely visit one of the pubs.

Sat outside in the sunshine! Nice pub food but personally I think the menu needs paring down so that the kitchen can run more efficiently. Staff at bar were pleasant and quick and kept on top of the cleaning of tables and floors.

Booked a family Christmas meal this evening at the Red Lion @ Brafield and was very disappointed with the service. When we arrived, we were told that 3 starters, 2 mains and 1 dessert weren’t available. We ordered some drinks and these sat on the end of the bar until we had to ask for them to brought to our table. Each course took ages to arrive and I had to ask for the empty glasses to be taken away, it’s not like the 3 girls at the bar were busy as they found plenty of time to chat. We ordered desserts and were then told they’d just sold out of brownie. Finally, we couldn’t have a latte as they had no milk!! I asked to speak to the manager as I didn’t think it was acceptable that so many things were unavailable. She came over to the table with such an attitude and was very defensive at everything I had to say. She did remove items from the bill, however we won’t be rushing back if that’s how your pub is managed.

Food is ok. Couple of veggie choices but it was barely warm when served. Service was dreadful. It was quite busy but, whilst we were waiting ages for drinks, the staff had plenty of time to chat. Over priced wine. Merlot at £24 a bottle which was cheap and syrupy. Better from Asda. Won’t return.
