About This Pub
Ah, The Five Rivers – it's one of those unassuming pubs that really grows on you once you step inside. From the reviews, it sounds like a gem for anyone after a genuine, down-to-earth experience; you know, where the chat flows as freely as the beer. I love how people rave about the welcoming atmosphere and the chance to make new friends – it's not every day you find a spot that feels like a second home. The recent refurb has given it a fresh lift, keeping that traditional pub essence while making it feel cosy and well-kept. Prices are spot on for a night out without the worry, and it's open most days from around 11 AM, which is handy for a lazy Sunday session. On the flip side, if you're hoping for a full meal, you're out of luck – it's mostly just snacks on offer, so you might want to grab a bite before you go. And let's be honest, it's got that classic locals' pub energy, which is fabulous if you're up for mingling with the regulars, but perhaps not ideal for a fancy date night. Overall, it's a solid 4.2-rated spot that's worth a visit if you're in Northampton and fancy a pint in a place that's as friendly as it is affordable – just go with the right expectations, and you'll have a great time.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The atmosphere is absolutely spot on – it's one of those places where you can walk in alone and end up chatting with a bunch of new mates, which is just brilliant for a casual night out.
-
The staff and owner are lovely and really make you feel welcome, adding to that warm, community vibe that's hard to find these days.
-
It's been freshly refurbished, so it looks tidy and inviting, without losing that classic old-school pub charm.
-
Prices are really reasonable, making it a great spot for a pint or two without breaking the bank.
-
The place is kept clean, from the bar area right down to the toilets, which is always a plus when you're settling in for a drink.
Cons
-
Food options are pretty limited, just the usual crisps and nuts, so if you're after a proper meal, you might need to head elsewhere.
-
It has that typical locals' feel, which means it might not be the best choice for a romantic date or if you're looking for something a bit more upscale.
-
From what folks have said, it's more about the beer and banter than fancy extras, so it could feel a tad basic if you're in the mood for variety.

Lovely pub, just been refurbished photos don’t do it justice. Lovely old school pub shall we come in again?
Great pub with great atmosphere and lots of local characters. We were made to feel really welcome. It did not provide food other than the usual pub snacks i.e. Crisps and nuts.
Typical locals who enjoy a beer. Not the sort of place u would take a date, unless u had no intentions of a second date! 🤪
Nice little pub, staff friendly, good music and good bar food I belive the rolls and sandwichs are home made, tasty and fresh and very reasonable prices, the toilets (men's) were clean and tidy, the bar room is also keept to clean standers, overall a nice place to have a pint.
