About This Pub

Oh, let me tell you about The Lamplighter – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local gem in Northampton, with its roots going back to 1871, and it's been independently run since 2009, which gives it that authentic, heartfelt touch. I love how they've nailed the Sunday roasts; from what folks are saying, they're some of the best around, with generous portions and flavours that really hit the spot, perfect for a lazy afternoon catch-up. The staff are an absolute delight, always up for a chat and making sure everyone feels included, which adds to the welcoming buzz. Plus, there's a fun lineup of events – think quiz nights on Wednesdays or vegan tapas on Tuesdays – that keep the place buzzing without overwhelming the traditional pub feel. They're big on supporting local suppliers for their drinks and food, which is a nice touch in these times. On the flip side, it does get packed on weekends, so booking might be a must if you want to avoid the rush, and the hours can be a bit confusing, potentially cutting short your plans. Overall, it's a solid choice for a good night out or a relaxed meal, and I'd say it's well worth a visit if you're in the area – just go with an open mind and you'll likely have a great time.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The Sunday roasts are absolutely spot on – tender, tasty, and served with a smile, making it a perfect spot for a relaxed meal with mates.
  • Friendly staff who make you feel right at home, with that warm, welcoming vibe that's hard to beat in a traditional pub.
  • A great range of events like quiz nights and vegan tapas Tuesdays, keeping things lively and giving you plenty of reasons to pop in regularly.
  • Top-notch selection of real ales, ciders, and craft beers, all sourced locally, which is brilliant for supporting small businesses and enjoying quality drinks.
Cons
  • It can get pretty busy on Sundays, so you might need to book ahead if you don't fancy waiting around.
  • The operating hours seem a bit unpredictable from what I've seen, which could be a hassle if you're planning a spontaneous visit.
  • As a smaller venue, space might feel a tad tight during peak times, especially if you're after a quiet corner for a chat.

Great little pub with good vibes, great good and a really friendly team. I grew bored of my normal local, and decided to try somewhere else, found this place by chance and was happy I did. The staff are welcoming and it has an inclusive feel to it, so all are welcome. The Sunday Roast is incredible and really good value. Definitely worth a try. Will update again when I try the burger later this month!
