About This Pub

Ah, McCooley's Concert Square – it's one of those Liverpool gems that really knows how to pull in a crowd for a proper Irish pub experience. From what I've gathered chatting about it with folks, the staff stand out as the real stars; they're cheerful and attentive, which makes all the difference when you're out with friends for a hen do or just a casual pint. The food's another winner – think hearty dishes that leave you satisfied and chatting about how good it was. Then there's the entertainment: live music sets a great mood, the sports on the screens keep things lively, and those pool tables are brilliant for a bit of friendly competition without needing to head elsewhere. It's smack in the middle of Concert Square, so it's dead convenient, and I love that they offer table service, making it feel a tad more relaxed than your average boozer. On the flip side, though, it's not all smooth sailing – some mates have mentioned bookings going awry, leaving you perched on makeshift seats instead of a proper table, which can be a bit frustrating on a busy night. Service delays, like waiting half an hour or more for drinks, have cropped up too, taking the edge off the fun. And let's not forget the entry rules; they've been a sticking point for a few, with strict ID checks that might turn you away if your paperwork isn't spot on, even if it's legit. Overall, it's a solid spot for a laugh and a drink, but it'd be even better with a bit more reliability on the service front – still, I'd say it's worth a visit if you're after that classic pub vibe, just go in with your eyes open to the occasional hiccup.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are absolutely brilliant – always friendly with a smile, making you feel right at home, especially for big groups like hen parties.
  • The food is spot on; it's tasty and hits the spot, with everyone in my group raving about it.
  • It's got a cracking atmosphere with live music, sports on the telly, and even pool tables, perfect for a relaxed or lively catch-up with mates.
  • Table service is a nice touch, so you can just sit back and enjoy without queuing at the bar.
  • Centrally located in Concert Square, it's easy to get to and feels less pushy than some other spots around.
  • The place keeps things clean, from the toilets to the general vibe, which makes for a more enjoyable visit.
Cons
  • Booking can be a bit unreliable; sometimes it's not confirmed, leading to squeezing in at odd spots like a barrel table.
  • Service can drag on, like waiting ages for drinks even after ordering, which puts a dampener on the evening.
  • Entry policies might trip you up, with strict ID checks that could bar you if your docs aren't just right, even if it's a government-approved one.

In Liverpool for the weekend for my daughters hen party. McCooleys was one of the best places we went too, staff were great all had smiles on their faces.😁unlike other places we went. The food we ordered was great enjoyed by everyone. Live music, sport on tv and pool tables. Will definitely be back when back in Liverpool. Keep the good work up.

Booked a table for the footie and food but booking wasn’t confirmed. So upon arrival they squeezed the 3 of us in to sit at a barrel. Ordered drinks from a girl on the floor… half an hour later.. still no drinks.. I asked at the bar and it took staff a further half hour to sort it out, cameras had to be checked! No apology given! Needless to say we didn’t bother with food and won’t be in again. Shocking service!!

Centrally located on concert square. Much better than the other venues as less ‘desperate’ with others dragging you off the street with freebies & false promises. McCooley’s doesn’t need to do that with an abundance of screens, live music, friendly staff and table service, everyone around concert square seems to prefer this venue with it being the liveliest in the area when we visited. Keep doing what you’re doing & other venues take note!

Had no problem entering this place by an expired BRP (it expired only because they decided to change to E-Visa) until this day THE GUARD WON’t let us in unless we have AN ACTUAL PASSPORT (not even an E-Visa which is a GOVERNMENT-APPROVED DOC???) I used to love this place so much but not again (I went in there just yesterday with the same BRP card as usual but not today? can’t tell if it’s racist or not tbh)

I came for a short drink on a stag do, during the day it was quite peaceful and a chilled environment, with live music playing, and even table service for drinks! I had a rum and coke which was pleasant, can't go wrong with it! The toilets were clean and large, and the service was very good. We came back later in the evening and it had completely changed atmosphere to almost party like, which was what we were looking for at the time. So we had a great time here.
