About This Pub

You know, when I popped into Mad O'Rourke's Pie Factory, I was really chuffed with the whole experience – it's one of those places that just feels special with its quirky interior and that genuine Black Country history. The pies are the star of the show; they're packed full of flavour, made fresh daily, and they've got modern twists on classics that make every bite a treat. I loved how they've thought about everyone, with gluten-free and vegan options on the menu, and it's spot-on for families too. Plus, being near the station makes it dead easy to get to. On the downside, though, service can be a bit patchy – we had a long wait for our table one evening, and it was frustrating when a dish we'd set our hearts on wasn't available. Still, the friendly faces behind the bar make up for it a fair bit, and overall, it's a solid choice for a good night out if you're up for some hearty grub and a laugh.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The pies are absolutely scrumptious and made fresh on site with traditional recipes that hit the spot every time.
  • It's got a fun and quirky atmosphere that's perfect for a relaxed catch-up with mates, especially with that Black Country charm.
  • They offer a brilliant range of options, including gluten-free and vegan choices, plus a kids' menu, so everyone's catered for.
  • The staff are generally friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home.
  • It's in a handy spot near Tipton railway station, with hearty portions that give great value for your money.
Cons
  • Service can be a bit slow, especially on busy days like bank holidays, which might leave you waiting longer than you'd like.
  • Sometimes items run out of stock, so you might not get exactly what you fancy without advance notice.
  • The queues for seating can build up, particularly during peak times, which puts a damper on things.
  • A few folks have mentioned the pie style isn't quite traditional for everyone, though that's more of a personal taste thing.

This was just the type of accommodation I was looking for. The rooms were well maintained and the staff friendly. The pie factory pies are wonderful. I hope to return sometime soon. It is close to Tipton railway station which enabled me to connect easily to most of the public transport services in the West Midlands.

This is a gem in Tipton. Lovely traditional, tiled interior. Some people may say the pies aren't pies as they only have a puff pastry lid on top of the filling. However I forgave this as the lamb and mint 'pie' was absolutely delicious and the chips were also very good, soft on the inside and crispy on the outside. For dessert I had the sticky toffee pudding which was gorgeous. The whole meal was very reasonable in price and I can understand why it was so busy on a Tuesday night.

We are really disappointed with this experience. Spent a long time waiting to be seated and served (can be expected on a bank holiday) the starter was nice and the waitress was pleasant but they didn't have the main my partner wanted which we weren't told about until just before the mains were served so he was forced to make a quick decision on what he wanted. Mains were disappointing, I didn't like the hunters chicken (unusual for me) my daughter didn't like the burger (very cheap looking, burger van style) Everything very heavily salted, Servers did not ask us if we are happy with our meals, could probably tell by the look on our faces and the picked at plates if food. We were polite and paid without complaint but we regret not saying something. I have never left a negative review on anything before, this is how disappointed we are.

What a cool atmosphere! The food was delicious and nearly took a layer of skin off my tongue as it was so hot! I ordered the lamb pie that was stuffed with loads of meat. One friend ordered steak and Stilton and she loved it. Other friend ordered brisket with onion and she loved it. Would definitely return if back in the area. Highly suggest booking ahead as we barely got a table as walk-ins.

Food and prices are great (hence the 4 stars) - I had the Tarzan pie which was the perfect combination of chunks of chicken, bacon and BBQ sauce! The pastry was very good. The Chips were also delicious. You can choose from a selection of pies to buy frozen to take home too. Service could definitely be better - both times I have been in recently and it wasn't overly busy - some of the staff seemed miserable and not approachable or did not come to our table for ages even though they were standing around the bar chatting to each other or on their phones. Toilet facilities are available on the ground floor and there is a small car park.
