About This Pub
Ah, Lloyds No.1 Bar – it's one of those Wetherspoon staples that you can't help but appreciate for its no-fuss approach to pub grub and pints. I've got to say, the prices are spot on; you can grab a solid meal without worrying about the wallet, and when the service clicks, like with that standout staff member who went the extra mile, it really makes your day. The place has this grand, spacious feel that's quite something, especially if you're popping in for a quick one before heading to a gig or just catching up with mates. On the flip side, it does attract a crowd that can turn things a bit boisterous, particularly with the student lot, so if you're after a peaceful evening, it might not be your first pick. Plus, while the food's generally alright and comes out fast, it's not always served hot off the press, and the menu doesn't have as many options as it used to, which is a shame. All in all, it's a reliable choice for us pub goers who value value for money, but keep in mind it works best for those casual, get-in-get-out moments rather than a long, lazy session.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The food is tasty and affordable, making it a brilliant spot for a quick, budget-friendly meal without breaking the bank.
-
Service can be top-notch when you get a gem like the staff member mentioned – friendly and attentive, which really brightens up your visit.
-
It's spacious and grand, with a lively atmosphere that's perfect for a casual catch-up or grabbing a bite before an event like a concert.
-
They serve up grub pretty quickly, so it's ideal if you're in a rush and want something straightforward and reliable.
Cons
-
It can get a bit rowdy at times, especially with groups of students letting loose, which might not suit everyone looking for a quiet pint.
-
Service isn't always speedy; some folks have found it slower than other Wetherspoon spots, which can put a dampener on things.
-
The food doesn't always arrive piping hot, and the menu choices seem a tad limited compared to what you might remember from before.
-
The overall vibe might feel a bit like you're in a hurry to eat and go, rather than lingering for a relaxed chat over drinks.

The usual Wetherspoon, good food, not expensive, tastes good - there's always room for more, served quite fast. The overall impression is like at MCs, eat fast and leave as soon as possible. For the quick bit on a Sunday afternoon before the Motorpoint Arena concert was okay.
Had the delightful pleasure of being served by Faith today for breakfast, and her service was absolutely outstanding. She's clearly very passionate about her work and takes pride and care into her service.I'd been having a rough day so far but she was so incredibly kind and helpful and she put a smile on my face. She's a credit to her team and sets a perfect example for customer service. I sincerely hope that her peers take note of how exceptionally hard she works. Thank you.
This is an absolutely massive, cathedral-like place full to the brim of lively, seemingly not very bright students, many out of their tiny minds (and I’m using the verb ‘tiny’ literally) with the help of the amber nectar or similar concoctions and other (no doubt proscribed) ‘substances’.
The food is…food and, like all Spoons, the ambiance varies from somnolent to ‘extremely lively’ depending on the time of the week and/or the day.
TOP TIP: As with all Spoons: timing is everything. My advice would be never to venture there after dark or at weekends, the only exception being to get ‘tanked up’ before going to a more expensive, (moderately) classier venue.
A bit slow compared to other Witherspoon sites, food not exactly hot. Menu choices not as extensive as they used to be but reasonable value. Not too noisy or rowdy, tables fairly well spaced
There’s a cluster of at least three Spoons around here and this is by far the grandest. Top rate friendly service as per usual. Limited outdoor seating at the front, more at the back but nothing great.
