About This Pub
Ah, La Cave – or should I say, the Wine Rooms spot in Hammersmith – it's one of those places that really hits the mark for a relaxed day out, especially if you're into good coffee and a decent glass of wine. From what I've gathered from the reviews, the coffee is a standout, with folks going on about how incredible it is and how the staff nail those espresso shots most of the time, paired with amazing homemade pastries and sandwiches that make for a proper treat. The terrace is just lovely for soaking up the sun and chatting away with friends over a selection of wines that showcase some brilliant origins and flavours – it's clear they put thought into matching them with the food, using quality ingredients from places like Neal's Yard. But, let's be honest, it's not all perfect; there are moments when the service feels a bit off, like with varying coffee quality or that worrying review about unequal treatment, which makes you think twice about popping in if you're not in the 'right' crowd. Still, with a strong 4.6 rating overall, it's worth a visit for the positives, just keep expectations realistic and maybe go during the day when it's buzzing with that community feel.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The coffee is absolutely spot on, with some reviewers raving about it being outstanding and even elite – perfect for a morning pick-me-up.
-
They've got a fantastic sunny terrace on Hammersmith Grove, ideal for lazy brunches or evening drinks with friends, seating up to 40 people.
-
The staff are generally friendly and helpful, often going the extra mile by bringing your order to the table, which makes for a relaxed vibe.
-
A great selection of wines by the glass, paired with quality food like British cheeses, Spanish meats, and homemade pastries that really enhance the experience.
-
Overall, it's got a solid reputation as one of London's best wine bars, with high praise for the food and drinks making it a welcoming spot for a catch-up.
Cons
-
There's been some inconsistency in the coffee quality, depending on who's behind the counter, with a few mentions of it tasting a bit bitter at times.
-
One review highlighted issues with how certain customers are treated, suggesting it's not always inclusive, which is a real shame and could put some folks off.
-
They've dropped a few menu items like the ham and cheese croissants, so you might miss out on some favourites if you're a regular.
-
The operating hours seem limited, typically wrapping up around 3 PM, which might not suit those looking for a late-night hangout.
-
As it's unclaimed on Google, there might not be much responsiveness to feedback, potentially meaning some concerns go unaddressed.

The management have been asked to leave, serves them right, after the way they treated me as a former loyal customer. They only treat you well if you are middle class and white, or if you are with a family. Karma will always win in the end. Racism and snobbery will never win.
Outstanding coffee, and the hot chocolate is elite. I visit regularly.
Nice coffee spot and cafe. Coffee is good, although there is some variation by who’s working. Some staff seem to produce a more bitter tasting espresso. All and all very good though.
Service has been really good lately, and they also offer to bring your order over to your table, which is great! 🙌 Coffee has been improved, acceptable most of the times, 👌 and they have added more breakfast options. Missing these ham & cheese croissants though. 🥐 (Update 8/2022)

Not a place for a flat white, just disappointing. The coffee great for a soap or soup 😅 The service is bad, they can’t handle people in batches in the morning. If you’re lucky you can get your order served at your table when having in. I’ve tried to visit this place really often the last 6 months, giving it multiple chances, because I really like the spot, but each time was equally bad.
INCREDIBLE tasting coffee. AMAZING food. BEST staff. The baristas are the best at making all kinds of coffee drinks, hot and cold. The whole staff is very friendly. And the food never disappoints with homemade pastries and sandwiches.
