About This Pub

Ah, the Kingsholm Inn – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local gem in Gloucester, right opposite the rugby gates, where you can soak up that community spirit. From what I've gathered from the reviews, it's got this fantastic atmosphere that's buzzing even when there's no match on, and the staff are genuinely lovely, always up for a chat and making you feel welcome, like that landlady who recommended a fab Indian spot. The beers are generally well-priced and there's a good range, plus the food, such as their impressive buffets, sounds like it hits the mark for a casual night out. But, to be fair, it's not all perfect – a couple of folks mentioned the beers not tasting as fresh as they should, which could make for an awkward pint or two. And with it only being open four days a week, you might have to plan around that. Overall, with a solid 4.2 rating, it's clear most people leave with a smile, so if you're after a traditional pub with heart, it's worth popping in, just keep those little downsides in mind for a balanced experience.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The atmosphere is absolutely spot on, especially if you're a rugby fan or just after a cosy spot near Gloucester Rugby – it's lively even on quiet days.
  • Friendly staff who make you feel right at home; the landlady's welcoming chat and recommendations add a real personal touch.
  • A cracking selection of beers at sensible prices, keeping things traditional while offering decent variety.
  • Comfortable seating and a well-maintained interior that gives off that classic pub charm without feeling outdated.
  • The food's a highlight, with impressive buffets and options that go down a treat for get-togethers.
Cons
  • Some beers can taste a bit off or not as fresh as you'd hope, which might put a dampener on things.
  • It's only open a few days a week, making it tricky if you're planning a spontaneous visit.
  • No website or online presence means it's harder to check details like hours or what's on offer before heading out.

Fabulous pub in the heart of Kingsholm just opposite the gates of Gloucester Rugby. Great atmosphere even on non-match days with friendly staff, comfortable seating areas and a great selection of beers etc.

A good old get together with pals and use of the skittles Alley. The buffet was truly impressive whilst unfortunately almost every beer I tried tasted not so fresh. Staff were polite but they knew the pipes weren’t great. It was awkward. Nice people, nice food beer not so great. Convenient for the Rugby of course.

The Kingsholm Inn (the Jockey) is a great traditional pub that's been updated to a good standard and has managed to retain the good atmosphere and decent beers at a sensible price which it's always been renowned for. The 2 ladies who run this establishment do so with a great passion and even at its busiest you still don't have to wait too long so I would say match day or any other day give this pub a try and you won't be disappointed .

Emma, the landlady, was extremely welcoming on a quiet Friday afternoon. She chatted to us about the rugby, recommended a local Indian restaurant (which was fab) and was all round lovely. The pub itself looks bright and well maintained. I can imagine it's packed on match days. We will definitely be going in prior to the game.
