About This Pub

Ah, the Kings Park Hotel – it's one of those places that feels like a reliable old mate, tucked away in Rutherglen and just a stone's throw from Glasgow's buzz. From what I've gathered from folks' experiences, it does a few things really well: the rooms are cosy with handy amenities like WiFi and Smart TVs, and they're surprisingly quiet even when there's a big do on downstairs, which is brilliant if you're after a good night's sleep. Plus, the restaurant serves up some tasty, varied grub with peaceful park views, and being so close to Hampden Park makes it a winner for events or nipping into the city. On the other hand, it's not all smooth sailing – some have had a rough time with service that's a bit lacklustre, like unenthusiastic staff at check-in or meals that get muddled up with long delays, which can really dampen the mood. And let's be honest, a few rooms could do with a freshen-up, what with mould and rust cropping up in places you'd rather not see them. Overall, it's got that charm of a traditional hotel with a bar and restaurant, but if you're planning a visit, I'd say go in with your eyes open – it's great for value and convenience, but might not wow you if you're seeking something more polished. Still, for a casual night out or a base near Glasgow, it could be just the ticket, as long as you keep expectations balanced.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The rooms are comfortable and well-equipped with WiFi and Smart TVs, making for a relaxing stay even if there's a lively event downstairs.
  • It's in a handy spot, just a short drive from Glasgow city centre and near Hampden Park, ideal for events or a quick getaway.
  • Some guests really enjoy the food in the restaurant; it's diverse and well-cooked, with lovely views of the park.
  • The staff can be friendly and accommodating, adding a welcoming touch to your visit.
Cons
  • A few rooms feel a bit dated and neglected, with issues like mould in the bathroom or rust on fixtures that could put you off.
  • Service isn't always up to scratch – some reports of unhelpful reception or disorganised meals, like mix-ups with orders and long waits.
  • The overall vibe might come across as a tad depressing for some, especially if you're after a more modern or upbeat atmosphere.
  • Location-wise, it's not the most exciting area, and you might find the lack of clear operating hours a bit frustrating.

I had a positive experience here. Nice staff, the room was fine, and the bed comfortable. There was a big function downstairs one night, but in my room, I didn’t hear a peep. It’s not far to drive into the city centre. I would stay again. & the food in the restaurant, they know now to cook, honestly! I think it’s a solid all-rounder, no hesitation!

We really liked it there. A very cosy, pleasant and well-equipped place with decent transport links. The rooms were spacious, the bathrooms clean, and there was an abundance of towels. Despite three functions taking place downstairs, it was peaceful and quiet – excellent sound insulation. If I were to be picky, the receptionist’s knowledge of city parking and transport could have been better. Would I go there again? Definitely.

Wouldn't stay here again if they paid me. The person on reception when we checked in was not interested in talking to us, just handed us a key and a piece of paper with limited information. The room was the worst I have ever stayed in. There was mould growing in the bathroom and rust on the toilet roll holder which had rubbed off on the toilet paper! There was a bulb missing from the bathroom. There was a very odd top on one the taps, obviously couldn't be bothered to find a matching one. There were only 2 hangers in the wardrobe - 2 hangers for a 2 night stay for 2 adults! The room was cold and we couldn't get the radiator to work so we went and spoke to the person on reception. Apparently the heating was on a timer! So in the middle of winter you can only have the heating on when the hotel thinks it's appropriate! Never heard of this before, never been cold in a hotel before. Lots of spiders webs in the restaurant, obviously not been cleaned properly in a while. There are 4 function rooms in the Kings Park nightclub, sorry hotel. They are far more interested in the people using these function rooms than the guests staying in their bedrooms. On the check in paper it stated any functions/music would be finished by 12.30am but it was still very loud after 1.30am. Then the adults from the functions were laughing and shouting in the corridors, and children were running around squealing well after 2am while guests were trying to sleep! So not much sleep for us!

Booked hotel last minute. The room was a bit dated and depressing, headboard clearly had a lot of action before. Service was ok, although a bit unpleasant waiters during breakfast. Not a great location too, but at least it was quiet. Not somewhere where I would like to return.

Our family party of 30 was a frustrating experience. Despite pre-ordering our menu choices a week in advance, the service was shockingly disorganized. Not only did they mix up our orders, but they also apparently gave us the wrong menu and price. The main courses took nearly three hours to arrive! While the food itself was actually quite good, the incredibly poor service overshadowed everything. It was a real disappointment.
