About This Pub

Ah, An Ruadh-Ghleann in Rutherglen – it's one of those reliable Wetherspoon spots that you can always count on for a wallet-friendly night out. I have to say, the decor really stands out; that curved ceiling and the fancy lights give it a bit more character than your average pub, making it a lovely place to relax with a pint or two. The prices are an absolute winner – think hearty breakfasts for peanuts, and they've got some cracking vegetarian options that are full of fresh ingredients and taste spot on. Service is usually quick, and the range of ales is just what you'd hope for on a chilled evening. But, let's be honest, it's not all perfect; I've heard a few tales of orders getting mixed up and staff not jumping on fixes right away, which can be a bit frustrating after a long day. Plus, some areas aren't signposted well, like the spots for families, and you might end up dodging a bit of dodgy language from other groups. Still, with a solid 4.0 rating from plenty of folks, it's worth a visit if you're in Glasgow – just go in with realistic expectations and you'll likely have a great time swapping stories over a cheap round.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The atmosphere is really inviting with a curved ceiling and pretty lights that make the place feel unique and welcoming.
  • It's incredibly affordable – you can get a full breakfast for under £12, including refills on tea or coffee, which is brilliant value for money.
  • They've got a great selection of drinks, like refreshing pints and a nice range of real ales, perfect for a casual catch-up.
  • Plenty of seating options and a well-lit counter that makes ordering a breeze.
  • Lots of vegetarian choices on the menu, with dishes like the burrito bowl and five bean chili that are packed with flavour and veggies.
Cons
  • Service can be hit or miss; some folks have had orders go wrong multiple times, and staff don't always sort it out quickly.
  • Certain areas aren't clearly marked, like where children can sit, which might lead to a bit of confusion or needing to move tables.
  • There have been complaints about other people's behaviour, such as rough language in some spots, which can spoil the vibe a little.
  • While the food and drinks are generally good, it's not quite as polished as some other Wetherspoon branches, so expectations should be set accordingly.

This was a brilliant pub for drinking, with a curved style across the ceiling that is a highlight of the design! The lights are really pretty including the ones lined with black, seating is plentiful too. Counter is well lit and presented, I had a refreshing pint of Angelo Moretti at a comfortable seat and tables were clean!

This Wetherspoons is a little more upmarket.A long restaurant with very pleasant decor. Two full breakfasts of good quality came in at under £12.The chain is most certainly always good value for money. This deal included toast and tea or coffee with refills.Only complaint is the usual much joked about toilet arrangements. I unfortunately suffer from osteoarthritis in both knees. Stairs have become the enemy Like all other wetherspoons this one is no different.A large flight of stairs is involved.God help the aged and like me, infirm. 😱😡 Its no joke. Back for a convenient visit after nearby museum trip. This time decided to have a change and plumped for. Steak and Kidney Pudding with Mash, peas and gravy.Very tasty.😊17/3/24.Two big breakfasts were the order of the day. Excellent value. 25/8/24. An unchanging environment. The formula works so why change it. Haddock and chips was great quality and very enjoyable. Unfortunately, the cheaper prices attract undesirables of which there were a few tonight. Not to disastrous proportions, just noisily annoying.😡 Still best value for breakfasts.10/12/24. Usually here for good breakfasts but tonight went for dinner with a friend. His grilled half chicken was ok. but my Steak and Kidney pudding with chips must Serve as one of the worst culinary disasters in Wetherspoons history Very small, looked like Dickie Mints hat, tasted like it to.Very little meat content. A real bad choice on my part. Never again.Had dish before and it wasnt like this. Was left mainly uneaten,so had chips and gravy for dinner. Not at all good🥺

Been coming here for a long time as it’s the closest whetherspoons to me but this will sadly now be the last. The past FOUR times the orders have been completely wrong and when you inform the staff they keep saying they are going to fix it and they just don’t. On this occasion I literally had to just stand and wait at the bar for nearly 15 mins for the fruit I paid for on the pancakes to be stuck in a bowl. How hard can that be?? This was after twice going back to the bar and asking where it was and being told it would be at our table in a minute. 20 mins later still nothing so in total 35 mins after the pancakes were on the table I myself had to wait and take the bowls to our table myself. The bowl of fruit by the way which was supposed to have banana, strawberries, blueberries and apples was just room temperature apples and the kids thought they were minging (their words) and wouldn’t eat them so a total waste of time. Breakfast was cold when I got it too and the toast wasn’t even toasted properly just soggy bread. You can’t come in here anymore without doing the staffs jobs for them and they all just seem to stand about congregating in the middle of the place laughing and joking when people i.e me are simply waiting for a bowl of rotten fruit. Verdict is it’s a decent place for the auld ones to come in for a cheap pint b4 the decent bars open at lunchtime. Never again 👎🏻

Not quite as good as the one in Cambuslang but decent nonetheless. Service was quick, and food was presented well. Nice range of real ales. Had to move table due to children not being allowed to sit in a particular area, but this wasn't clearly marked. Moved to an area where the language used wasn't the best. Security on the door. Usual quality items that you would expect in spoons. Although one of the chairs at table number 13 is due to retire shortly.

We visited the Rutherglen branch of this JD Wetherspoon owned restaurant and were pleasantly surprised to see quite a few vegetarian dishes. The Burrito bowl was divine - packed with tons of veggies, beans, greens. The five bean chili & rice was pretty interesting too. Definitely a big thumbs up for this restaurant !
