About This Pub

Ah, the Kings Head in Chester – what a gem of a spot it is, tucked away in that charming old building that's been around for over four centuries. I have to say, the atmosphere really steals the show; it's got this eerie, haunted feel that makes every visit feel like a bit of an adventure, especially if you're into a spot of the supernatural. Pair that with a solid range of beers and a roaring open fire, and you've got yourself a cosy haven for unwinding with mates. The staff are an absolute delight too, always up for a chat and making sure everyone feels welcome, which is spot on for a relaxed evening out. Oh, and if you're bringing the dog along, they'll be treated like royalty with water and treats – it's those little things that make it stand out. On the flip side, though, it's not all perfect; the prices can sting a bit, so you might want to budget accordingly if you're planning a big night. Service at the bar can be a bit sluggish at times, which is a shame when you're eager for another round, and the options for wine or cocktails are pretty slim, so it might not suit if you're after something fancier. Still, overall, it's a place with real character that I'd recommend giving a go – just go in with your eyes open to the highs and lows, and you're in for a treat.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The historic atmosphere is absolutely captivating; it's a 400-year-old building with a haunted reputation that adds a fun, spooky twist to your visit.
  • They've got a cracking selection of beers on tap, perfect for settling in and enjoying a pint in that cosy setting.
  • The staff are really friendly and chatty, making you feel right at home, especially if you're popping in for a quick drink or a longer stay.
  • It's wonderfully dog-friendly – they'll sort out water and treats for your furry friend, which is a lovely touch if you're out and about with pets.
  • The open fire creates such a warm and inviting space, especially on a chilly evening, adding to the overall charm of the place.
Cons
  • Prices can be a bit on the steep side, so it might not be the best spot if you're watching your wallet.
  • Service at the bar can sometimes drag a little, which might leave you waiting longer than you'd like for your round.
  • The drinks menu is a tad limited when it comes to wine or cocktails, so if that's your preference, you might find yourself wanting more options.
  • There have been a few gripes about drinks not being quite right, like a cold coffee in one case, which could put a dampener on things.

Luckily enough I live across the road (literally). Great pub, not the cheapest but great atmosphere every day of the week. P.s just watched the episode on prime. Brilliant!

Nice old pub with decent range of beer but limited wine or cocktails. Service was quite slow at the bar. Nice atmosphere though.

Spent a few hours here last weekend when in Chester. Truly unique atmosphere, coupled with a good selection of beers. Definitely worth a visit when in Chester - especially if you’re into all things supernatural.

Gorgeous old pub, dog friendly. They gave my dog a bowl of water & treats. Lovely open fire & everyone really friendly & chatty. I went to the toilet & put my bottle of water on top of the toilet & it went flying off the top of the toilet & ended up in the next toilet. I love spooky stuff so I wasn't scared! One of the most haunted pubs in Chester, definitely worth a visit. It's very beautiful and there are lots of haunted dolls. It's child friendly & serves food.
