About This Pub

Ah, Black Bush Traditional Irish Bar in Chester is one of those places that just warms your heart the second you step inside. I've heard from folks who've been there that the owner and staff are absolute gems, always up for a laugh and making sure everyone feels welcome, which really sets the tone for a great night. The Guinness stands out as a highlight – plenty of people rave about it being the best in town, and it's clear it's a big draw for anyone seeking that authentic Irish experience. Plus, with no music blasting away, it's ideal for catching up with mates or even chatting with strangers, just like in those classic pubs you hear about. Prices are fair too, so you won't feel like you're splashing out unnecessarily, and the cosy interior adds to that homely feel. On the flip side, it's not all perfect; a couple of comments mentioned the Guinness not always being poured slowly enough, which can leave it a tad watery and not quite hitting the mark. Still, overall, it's a fantastic addition to Chester's scene, and I'd say it's well worth a visit if you're after good company, solid drinks, and a bit of that Irish craic without the hassle.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff and owner are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
  • They serve what many call the best Guinness in Chester – it's a real treat for anyone after a proper pint.
  • The atmosphere is relaxed and perfect for chatting with friends or even striking up conversations with new folks; no blaring music means you can actually hear each other.
  • Prices are spot on, with amazing value for drinks and even treats like Tayto crisps, so it's easy on the wallet.
  • The interior is nice and cosy, creating a warm, traditional Irish vibe that's just inviting for a good night out.
Cons
  • Some pints, like the Guinness, might not always be poured just right, which could make them a bit watery and not up to the highest standards.
  • It can get really busy at times, especially when it's new or during peak hours, which might mean a wait for a seat or a drink.

Highly recommended. Warm, friendly. Enjoyed the craic, with a few Guiness, watching Ireland v Wales.

Nice pub, good and cosy. Guinness was a bit watery and was poured far too quickly really. Good pint for the UK, but might be better if they get poured slower. Will definitely be back either way.

We went for a drink when it first opened and it was really busy full of happy punters, nice interior and we sat on a table with some strangers who we had a good laugh with. My partner said it was the best pint of guiness he's had in Chester. Nice to see it doing so well, will return when in town for another :)
