About This Pub
Ah, the Horse & Groom – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local gem in London, you know? From what I've gathered from the reviews, the staff really shine here; Jackie's mentioned a lot for her top-notch service and knowing just what you fancy for a drink, which makes every visit feel personal and enjoyable. The atmosphere is spot on, especially if you're into rugby – it's a hub for folks from South Africa, Ireland, and beyond, with live entertainment and even braai days that bring a bit of that community spirit. Drinks are generally affordable, and everything's kept clean and tidy, which is always a plus after a long day. On the flip side, a couple of people noted that it's not the cheapest spot, so you might want to keep an eye on your wallet, and while there are mentions of tasty food like boerewors rolls, it doesn't seem to be the star of the show, so perhaps stick to the drinks if you're not sure. Overall, it's a solid choice for a relaxed evening out, and I'd say it's worth a visit if you're in the area – just go with an open mind and enjoy the craic!
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are absolutely brilliant – especially Jackie, who's known for serving up a perfect pint and always having a friendly chat, making you feel right at home.
-
It's got a fantastic atmosphere, perfect for catching rugby matches with a lively crowd of locals from all walks, including South Africans who love the braai and special events.
-
Drinks are reasonably priced and the bar is always well-stocked, with clean facilities that add to the overall welcoming vibe.
-
Live entertainment and tasty treats like boerewors rolls make it a fun spot, and its handy location right by the station means it's easy to pop in after a day out.
Cons
-
Prices might feel a tad steep for some, as one person mentioned it's not the cheapest option around, even if the atmosphere makes up for it.
-
Not much buzz about the food, with a few saying they've not tried it or seen plates that look good but haven't sampled them, so it might not be the main draw.

The staff are great, but especially Jackie. She serves me a perfect pint, she is kind, and always has time for a chat. She also knows the locals drink choices. The toilets and bar are fully stocked. I could not be happier.
A Rugby bar lots of Irish English South Africans use this bar not so cheap, but good atmosphere clean and tidy .I've never eaten here so I can not quote on that, but I have seen some plates go by that caught my 👁🗨
Great pub for South Africans living in London! You can always catch the rugby here, atmosphere is good, drinks are cheap and they have live entertainment some nights. They also braai some days, I love to bring my South African friends here. Also great it’s right outside the station.
Good friendly service from friendly staff! Thank you for giving a great venue to watch the rugby World Cup match. Looking forward to the next one.
The boerewors rolls were great too!
