About This Pub

Ah, The Wibbas Down Inn, it's one of those reliable Wetherspoons spots that I've popped into a few times and always leaves me with mixed but mostly fond memories. What I love most is how it nails the basics – you've got cracking value on everything from pints to plates, and the place is surprisingly spacious with nice touches like a stylish counter and separated seating areas that make it feel a bit more inviting than your average pub. It's in such a handy spot too, right by the theatre and just a stone's throw from the station, which is perfect for grabbing a quick drink or meal on the go. The selection of ales is top-notch, and if you're after something simple like a full English or a burger, it's straightforward and hits the spot without any pretence. On the downside, though, service isn't always the warmest; I've heard tales of staff being a bit rushed or not as smiley as you'd hope, and the food definitely isn't gourmet – it's basic, and if you're expecting anything fancy, you might be disappointed. Plus, it can get packed, especially on busier nights, so you might end up jostling for space. All in all, it's a solid choice for a laid-back evening with mates, as long as you go in with realistic expectations and appreciate the no-frills charm of a good old Spoons.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • It's got that classic Wetherspoons vibe with fantastic value for money on drinks and food, making it a wallet-friendly spot for a night out.
  • The pub feels spacious and well-designed, with different seating areas that make it easy to find a cosy corner or a lively spot.
  • They offer a cracking selection of ales and other drinks, always well-presented and reasonably priced.
  • Its location right opposite the theatre and a short walk from the station is spot on for popping in before or after an event.
  • The basic pub grub is straightforward and satisfying, perfect if you're after something simple and tasty without the fuss.
Cons
  • Service can sometimes come across as a bit abrupt or inattentive, which might put a dampener on things.
  • The food is pretty basic and not for those after anything fancy – it's your standard pub fare, so expectations should be kept in check.
  • It gets really busy, especially in the evenings, which can make it tricky to grab a table or enjoy a quiet chat.
  • Prices on some items, like certain ales, might feel a touch higher than you'd expect at a Spoons, even if they're still good value overall.

A spacious, enjoyable pub in main town Wimbledon. Well run, and great value. Busy in the evening. Right opposite the theatre, and a short walk from the station. It's a Wetherspoons pub, so expect all the usual fayre, don't expect high end drinking and eating, but then your not paying high end prices. Comfortable enough! Food is constantly excellent.

This was a superb pub for drinking, with a glorious green and red colour scheme! This is complimented by the lighting and different seating areas are well separated, counter is stylishly presented too. I had one of the ales on tap, sitting comfortable at a smooth, clean table!

Very lively on my visit on a Friday afternoon. Looked small from the outside, but was actually rather like a tardis. I enjoyed a very good Wimbledon Pale Ale for £5.26. More expensive than i usually pay for an ale in a spoons, but in fairness, it was excellent,

You cannot go wrong with this pub, the food is basic and very good. As for the ales, top notch. Great variety and great prices. If you like basic pub food and great variations on all alcohol, this is the place for you. They also do Coffee, Tea and Hot chocolate. Nice. 👍

Service without a smile! Really awful Full English Breakfast, ordered the items on the app and the girl delivered the cups to our seat and didn't even look at us and just plonked the cups down on the table...about two seconds later she returned with the full English breakfasts , however one of them had not even been given sausages, so we had to go on an expedition to find a member of staff to sort the issue out in this vast weather spoons pub, thank god for GPS! . Once we received the full English eventually, the toast was burnt, the beans were tasteless, 3 out of 4 eggs were more boiled than fried and were hard as the oak table we were dining at. The tastiest things we had was the Heinz ketchup which was beautiful, and extremely rich in tomato sauce...which was expected as it was an unopened Heinz bottle. Overall really disappointed with the breakfast. The standards have slipped drastically from the old days of weatherspoons which was a great go to place for budget friendly but tasty dishes. I would personally skip the breakfasts and just stick to their extensive drinks menu. They can go wrong with that menu...or can they?
