About This Pub
Ah, the Horse and Jockey in Coventry – it's one of those places that really hits the mark for a relaxed meal and a pint with mates. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the food is a standout; think hearty Sunday lunches and dishes that are not only tasty but nicely presented, with fair portions that leave you satisfied. The menu's got a good range too, so there's something for everyone, and that garden area is just brilliant for soaking up the sunshine with a cold one in hand. On the downside, though, prices can sneak up on you – a simple add-on to a drink might cost more than you'd expect, and there have been a few grumbles about things like unseasoned food or the odd service mishap that could spoil the experience a bit. All in all, it's a solid choice if you're popping out for a bite, but I'd say go in with your eyes open and maybe check the menu first to keep things enjoyable without any unexpected hitches.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The food is absolutely delicious and always served piping hot, with a great variety on the menu that keeps things interesting.
-
The staff are generally lovely and welcoming, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
-
There's a brilliant garden area that's perfect for enjoying a drink when the sun's out, adding a nice touch to the overall vibe.
Cons
-
Some prices can feel a bit steep, like paying £1.80 for a dash of blackcurrant in tap water or £7.50 for a Guinness with extras – it might leave you scratching your head.
-
There have been a few slip-ups with food prep, such as unseasoned dishes or raw chips, which can put a dampener on the meal.
-
Service isn't always spot on, with occasional reports of requests being ignored or responses that come across as a tad unfriendly.

Recent Reviews
Have eaten at the Horse & Jockey a couple of times now, once for a pub meal and then again for Sunday lunch. Great food on both occasions and would happily eat there again.
Fair prices, a decent menu size, piping hot food and nicely presented. Only a couple of minor issues on the recent visit - missing stuffing and slightly overdone yorkshire puddings, but into the realm of nit-picking and certainly not enough to dock a star.
I’ve had several meals here lately, most recently the Rolled Beef Brisket. I must say, it absolutely deserves 5 stars and the quality and the taste of the food really is what you’d expect in a top quality restaurant. I can’t recommend enough.
Well what a Rip off , used to be a real friendly pub , however when questioning the Bar Man why a dash of Blackcurrant in Tap water costs £1.80 a really unfriendly response was who cares mate I don’t set the price, even a Guinness is over the top £7.50 for a Guinness and a dash of Blackcurrant….. What a disgrace….😡
Great food, lovely staff and brilliant garden!
Overall okay, however food could be better. Fish&chips came unseasoned and with raw chips. Waiter ignored request for ketchup. Jockey Burger did not have any sauce and had saggy bread so the burger was falling apart straight away. This made eating it virtually impossible.
Decent beer selection, though, and the place is pleasant.
