About This Pub

Ah, the Hare and Hounds – it's one of those cosy pubs that really feels like a community hub, especially with its welcoming beer garden and that warm, family-run charm that's just inviting for a catch-up with mates. I've heard from folks that the staff go out of their way to make you feel at home, whether you're popping in for a quiz night or hosting a special do in their function room, which is brilliant for weddings or parties and even licensed for civil partnerships. The hygiene rating's top-notch, which gives you peace of mind, and when the food's on form, like a well-done steak with generous portions, it's an absolute treat. On the flip side, though, it's not all smooth sailing – some have had rough experiences with meals that turn up cold or not quite right, like tough veg or mix-ups in orders, and waits can drag on, which might leave you a tad disappointed. Overall, it's worth a visit if you're in Coventry, but I'd say keep expectations realistic for the grub and maybe check in advance for any events to make the most of the good bits.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The Hare and Hounds has a lovely, welcoming atmosphere that's perfect for a relaxed evening out, with a beautiful beer garden that's just spot on for sunny days.
  • It's a family-run spot that's super dog-friendly in most areas and great for kids as long as they're supervised, making it feel inclusive and community-oriented.
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and attentive, especially for events like group dinners or pub quizzes, and they've got a solid track record with their 5-star food hygiene rating.
  • They offer a fantastic function room for special occasions, from weddings to parties, and it's licensed for marriages, which adds a nice touch for those planning something memorable.
  • Some meals, like a perfectly cooked steak, really hit the mark, and the portions are generous for the price, making it a solid choice for a mid-range meal.
Cons
  • Food quality can be hit or miss, with complaints about cold dishes like roast dinners and undercooked veg, which is a real letdown when you're looking forward to a hearty pub grub.
  • Service can sometimes drag, with long waits for food even after starters, leaving you a bit frustrated if you're in a hurry.
  • There have been issues with orders getting mixed up, like the wrong breakfast arriving or items missing, which might spoil an otherwise pleasant visit.
  • Portions of some sides, such as carrots not being properly prepared, have been noted as underwhelming, and one or two experiences involved finding a hair in the food – not ideal at all.
  • It's a shame that dogs aren't allowed in the restaurant area, as it might limit options for pet owners wanting a full dining experience.

One of the worst roast dinners I’ve ever had, we were there for my Nan’s granddads wedding anniversary and not only was the food terrible it was cold. Will not return

We came as a group of 5 adults. Had some soft drinks ordered our food which took a long time to come after the starters. The roast potatoes wasn't roast more like hard boiled the cabbage was hard the carrots wasn't topped and tailed. Then the puddings wasn't as expected as one of them was returned as it was solid in the middle.

The pub itself is beautiful, I enjoyed the evening in the beer garden and had a wonderful steak which was cooked perfectly, then went inside for the rest of the night to join in with the pub quiz and we all had a great time. It's a friendly atmosphere with lovely staff and everyone is incredibly welcoming to newcomers, I will be going again myself and I would highly recommend it!

12 for dinner and nothing was too much trouble. Fantastic service with a smile and the food was lovely. The portion sizes for the price was excellent. Thank you and we will most certainly be back.

Never had a bad experience until recently. Ordered a specific breakfast with a drink, and got charged only for the breakfast. I’ve added a menu item which wasn’t added to the meal as requested. Been given a coffee but no sugar. The breakfast came and it was the wrong one. On top of that, found a hair in the black pudding. What happened to the place?
