About This Pub

Ah, the Hole in the Wall – what a lovely little spot in Chiswick! I have to say, it's one of those places that just makes you feel at ease from the moment you walk in. The food is a real highlight; think hearty Sunday roasts with big, flavoursome portions made from fresh local ingredients, and don't even get me started on the grills and pub classics that go down a treat. Pair that with a cracking selection of beers and wines, and you've got yourself a proper culinary delight. The team behind the bar are absolute stars, always up for a chat and making sure everyone feels welcome, which really adds to that cosy, community feel. It's spot on for popping in for a quiet pint or catching up with mates in the stylish interiors. But, let's be honest, it's not without its flaws – sometimes the gravy's a bit scarce with the roast, so you might have to request it, and things can take a tad longer to arrive, though that does mean it's nice and fresh. Oh, and the place has a slightly worn look in places, which gives it character but could do with a spruce-up. All in all, it's a solid choice for anyone in the area, offering that true Chiswick hospitality with a balanced mix of highs and a few areas for improvement.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely delicious, with big portions of fresh, locally sourced dishes like those brilliant Sunday roasts that really hit the spot.
  • The staff and locals are incredibly friendly, creating a warm and welcoming vibe that's perfect for a casual get-together.
  • They've got a great selection of beers and drinks, including locally brewed ales and handpicked wines that pair nicely with the meals.
  • The atmosphere is cosy and stylish, making it an ideal place for a relaxed lunch, evening out, or even a private event in the heart of Chiswick.
Cons
  • The gravy doesn't always come with the roast as standard, so you might need to ask for a little jug, which can feel like an extra step.
  • Food can take a while to arrive, though it's worth the wait as it means everything's freshly prepared.
  • The pub might come across as a bit neglected in spots, with some areas not quite as polished as you'd hope.

Came in for a Sunday roast. Was very good, big portions and tastes good. Not enough gravy (almost none) at first but if you ask for more they give you a little jug - perhaps give the jug as standard? Took a while to come out but I actually prefer that for a roast - means it's a bit fresher. Excellent potatoes and lamb very good too.

A nice pub, a little neglected but with good beer and food and a friendly atmosphere . The landlord, who was on his own, coped manfully without his partner. I had the steak with dauphinois potatoes with broccoli as a side. Very tasty, but I would have preferred a whole steak rather than one cut into slices. My friends ordered burgers and chips and pronounced them good. My partner was happy with her vegan options. As a side note, there was no sign over the door which led to a little confusion initially.

Lovely local pub! New publican Paul & his team are great & the locals are friendly & chatty. Loved the crackling, open fire & the pints of Broadside. Brilliant!

Excellent rebirth of local pub under new management. Very experienced landlord is serving the best draught beers for miles. Very good 'local' atmosphere. Well laid out areas with an elegant panelled snug bar, airy and congenial main bar (with bar stools like a proper local!) and pretty restaurant always fresh with cut flowers. Good sized garden with generous seating. Food is a step above pub grub without breaking the bank. A definite oasis in the Grove Park area
