About This Pub

Ah, The Gunnersbury – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local gem in Chiswick. From what I've gathered from the reviews and details, it's been a family-run spot since 2002, and they've really nailed that old-school charm while keeping things fresh with creative cuisine and a carefully picked drink menu. I love how you can tuck into a full meal and a drink for about £20; it's straightforward, satisfying grub that doesn't break the bank, and folks have raved about the ambience being spot on for a relaxed evening or catching up with mates. The outdoor area with heaters sounds ideal for those cooler nights, and it's clear the staff go the extra mile to make everyone feel welcome, which is always a winner in my book. On the downside, it's a bit of a pity that it's closed on Sundays – I can imagine that putting a dampener on plans for a lazy weekend pint. Plus, the decor is pretty basic, no fancy bells and whistles, so if you're in the mood for something more upscale, you might find it a touch underwhelming. Overall, though, it's got a solid 4.3 rating from heaps of reviews, with plenty of high praise for its lively events and sports screenings, making it a great shout for anyone after an authentic pub experience in London. If you're heading that way, I'd say give it a go – it's all about that community spirit, but just keep an eye on the opening times to avoid any disappointments!

  • There's a solid selection of beers, wines, and cask ales to choose from, catering to all sorts of tastes and occasions.
  • Its location right opposite Gunnersbury station is spot on – so easy to pop in after a commute or explore the area.
  • It's wonderfully inclusive and LGBTQIA+ friendly, creating a safe and comfortable space for all.
Cons
  • It's closed on Sundays, which can be a real shame if you're after a pint or meal on the weekend.
  • The decor is quite simple and no-frills, so if you're after something a bit more polished, it might not quite hit the mark.
  • There haven't been many recent reviews, which makes me wonder if things have quietened down a tad lately.

🚇 Gunnersbury 🍺 £6.30 Paulaner The Gunnersbury pub is located at the west end of Chiswick High Road in West London. The nearest Tube is Gunnersbury which is just across the road. The John Bull Hotel was built in 1853, the name can still be seen on the right gable of the building. This pub has been altered over the years, it was converted into a Truman Gateway pub in 1972 and was also a famous music venue. Visited bands included The Who, T.Rex and Thin Lizzy to name but a few. The pub was renamed The Gunnersbury in 2009. This is a two bar pub that is traditional at heart and decorated with some bold colours. The bar to the right is bright and airy, has a pink panelled servery with high level seating throughout. The bar to the left is considerably larger, has more subtle decor and an eclectic mix of low level seating. At the far end of the bar is a raised section which is a remnant of the old stage. A couple of nice features include the stained windows and photos of music legends. At the back is a partly sheltered patio beer garden. The beer selection offers a decent mix of continental lagers, London brews and cask ales. I decided on a Paulaner, my pint was excellent, price point was about right, I loved the beer pump. The food menu offers burgers, pizza, club sandwiches and home cooked specialties, Fish & Chips costs £16.30. I arrived just after 12pm on a warm Saturday lunchtime in May. The pub had not long opened and had a few punters in attendance. I met the Landlord who was kind enough to tell me about the history of the pub and his time spent in pubs and most notably his time being part of saving The German Gymnasium building by Kings Cross station. He mentioned that most of his trade comes from the local business park and fans on Brentford match days. This was one of my most interesting pub visits this year. I loved learning about this pubs journey from the Victorian era through to the rock legends that performed here. A very good beer selection, first class hospitality and a nostalgic setting make this a must visit London Pub. ℹ️ Info correct on visiting 11.05.24

Looking for a classic pub experience during our midweek visit to Chiswick, The Gunnersbury delivered in full. This old-school British establishment has a simple, no-frills decor that adds to its authentic charm. Despite its unfussy atmosphere, The Gunnersbury had a lively, upbeat vibe going when we stopped in for lunch. The staff was incredibly warm and attentive, providing service that was top-notch from start to finish. As for the food, it was hearty pub grub at its best. No fancy pretense, just well-prepared staples done right and portioned generously. Every dish hit the spot without breaking the bank. While The Gunnersbury may not be the trendiest spot around, it excels at delivering a quintessential British pub experience. If you're after a laidback place to tuck into classic fare washed down with a perfectly poured pint, all backed by friendly service, you'll find it here. A neighborhood gem worth seeking out for an unpretentious yet memorable lunch or evening out.

A cavernous pub close to Gunnersbury station. A good selection including a couple of cask ales. Looks like it could be great fun when sports are televised. Good to see the six nations already advertized! Service was excellent, done with a smile to make it even better. A good place for a pint.

A lovely place for a New Year celebration. It wasn’t too busy but still a fantastic evening. They have a great outdoor area with some heaters, as well as a large open space inside. There is a fairly good amount of seating. It is very LGBTQIA+ friendly, and I felt very safe here. Great music, great sound system, and the bar is quick with plenty of staff. I look forward to returning! It was so welcoming.
