About This Pub
Oh, let me tell you about the Hoghton Arms – it's one of those pubs that just hits the spot for a proper British get-together. Picture this: you're wandering into this beautifully refurbished spot with its modern rustic feel, complete with those lovely period features that give it real character. The log fire's a winner on a chilly evening, and come summer, the beer garden is just the ticket for soaking up the sun with a cold drink in hand. From what I've gathered from folks' experiences, the food's a standout – packed with classics done right, like a hearty Sunday roast or that three-course meal that's brilliant value. The staff? They're top-notch, always on hand with a smile and quick to sort any little requests, whether it's more chips for a group or just a friendly chat. It's dead dog-friendly too, which is great if you're out with your furry mate. But, to keep it real, while most people are raving, the overall feel suggests there might be the occasional hiccup, like busier days where things slow down a bit or if you're not nearby, it could take a bit of effort to get there. All in all, it's a solid choice for pub goers looking for that perfect blend of tradition and a good time – I'd say give it a go and see for yourself!
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
It's a lovely family-friendly spot with a warm, rustic charm and a roaring log fire that makes you feel right at home.
-
The beer garden is absolutely brilliant for sunny afternoons, perfect for casual get-togethers with mates or a relaxed family meal.
-
Food's spot on – think classic pub grub with some delightful twists, like great value deals and a cracking Sunday roast.
-
Staff are always polite and attentive, making sure everything runs smoothly without hovering, which is just what you want on a good night out.
-
They're super dog-friendly and welcoming for all sorts, plus they've got enticing offers like 30% off mains to sweeten the deal.
Cons
-
With an average rating suggesting not everyone's experience is perfect, there might be the odd off day with service or food consistency, though it's not jumping out from the recent chats.
-
Being in a countryside location, it could feel a bit out of the way if you're not local, making it tricky for a spontaneous visit.
-
As it's a popular pub, it might get busy at peak times, potentially leading to waits for tables or that cosy spot by the fire.

At short notice, Hoghton Arms were able to accommodate 50 of us for a wake and provided sandwiches and chips. On request more chips provided with no fuss. Nice relaxed atmosphere and beautiful beer garden to enjoy. Staff all polite and attentive without being obtrusive. Thank you
Lovely atmosphere, fab food, lovely staff and super dog friendly.
My husband and I have driven past Hoghton Arms a number of times, whenever we’ve exited the M65 at Junction 3, and said to each other that we should try the food there sometime, mainly because of its countryside kerb appeal. We made a spontaneous decision to call in this time, just before 2pm, on the off chance that they might be able to accommodate us. It seemed quite busy but the staff acknowledged us immediately and we were seated at a table not long afterwards.
We were asked if we would like to order drinks straight away, which was great as it saved some time plus it helped curb our hunger, having skipped breakfast. My husband chose the prawn cocktail starter which disappeared quickly, so it was good. He chose a pie for his main, I had sirloin steak, and we shared an apple and cherry crumble for dessert. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals which were served hot, cooked to perfection and within a reasonable waiting time. I particularly enjoyed the chargrilled flavour of my steak; that was a very yummy touch! All the staff were very polite, friendly and attentive. The prices are very reasonable too. It was a real pleasure to dine at Hoghton Arms.
My husband and I were admiring the interior decoration as we waited in between courses. We particularly liked the relaxing, muted colour scheme, the magnificent timber roof structure, and the amusing but attractive, grand chandelier made from cutlery. We were pleasantly surprised to see that dogs are welcome too as our golden retriever will undoubtedly like to join us sometime.
We would not hesitate to recommend Hoghton Arms and we have already reserved a table in a few days when we intend to return with another two couples to celebrate a birthday.
Great experience today here , I thought the 3 x course meal for £17:99 was great value for money . I had , fried garlic mushrooms, then steak with peppercorn sauce , then crumble and custard . Rebecca who served us was very polite , courteous, and attended to our table efficiently.
Would definitely go again if passing
We decided last minute to have a family meal. We booked using the automated phone line. Quick and very easy. We arrived slightly early but was shown straight to our table. The restaurant was clean warm and friendly with a really good atmosphere. We ordered some drinks while we looked at the menu which came within a few minutes. We ordered our food and too came very quickly ( about 10- 15 mins.) All of our food was perfectly cooked well presented and arrived together. It was delicious. Our waiting staff couldn't do enough and were so polite and friendly. Cannot recommend enough.
