About This Pub
Ah, the Hare in Roxwell – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local gem, tucked away in the Essex countryside. From what I've gathered from folks' experiences, it's got this lovely, cosy vibe that's perfect for unwinding with friends over a pint of their special Golden Crust cask ale or one of their guest brews. The food really shines through; whether it's a juicy steak burger or a cracking Sunday roast, it's clear that the kitchen puts heart into every plate, and it's no wonder people rave about it. The staff are an absolute delight too – think attentive servers who remember it's your birthday and make a fuss with candles and songs, or bar staff juggling everything with a smile. It's pet-friendly as well, so you can bring the dog along for a wander in the beer garden on a sunny day. That said, it's not all perfect; sometimes things can drag a bit with the service, especially if they're flat out, and if you're starving, you might find the portions aren't quite as generous as you'd hope. Overall, though, it's a solid choice for a relaxed outing – I'd say give it a go if you're in the area, just pop in with realistic expectations and you'll likely have a cracking time.

After reading many good reviews, I decided to return to the hare for a spot of lunch. Firstly, the young lady behind the bar Tai (I think that was her name, sorry for the incorrect spelling) she was absolutely excellent. She was managing the serving and the bar at the same time. She even had time to somehow draw a shamrock on my husband’s Guinness. The food was also delicious. I highly recommend this beautiful pub. It’s very relaxing during the day for quiet drinks.
We had the steak burger and it was excellent. The chips were good but a ladies portion rather than a hungry mans! Nice atmosphere, good gin and very friendly helpful waitress Lauren. Thanks so much. We’ll be back 😊
Such a lovely evening. James, our server was amazing. On learning it was my husband's birthday and my mother in laws 90th birthday, he brought out their dessert with candles, singing Happy Birthday. The food was so tasteful. We had a wonderful time. My mother in law can't stop talking about her lovey food and birthday.
Visited on Sunday with my sister and dog.gorgeous food gorgeous staff. Looking for a lovely country pub for a Sunday roast, best roast since moving to Chelmsford! Highly recommend!
I have been to this resteraunt twice and I have had a very postive experience both times.
The food is incredibly tasty and well cooked.
The staff are responsive, kind and welcoming.
The atmosphere is very cosy and friendly.
My only criticisms are that the food service can be a little slow and the food portions are far too big for me.
Overall I would highly recommend this resteraunt to anyone.
