About This Pub
Ah, the Halfway House – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local gem in Chorley, you know? I've heard from folks that the Sunday roasts are an absolute treat, with generous portions and those endless Yorkshire puds that make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Pair that with their impressive range of cask ales, and you've got a perfect spot for unwinding in the beer garden on a sunny day. It's dead family-friendly too, which is brilliant if you're popping in with the little ones or even your dog in the designated areas. The staff are generally lovely and welcoming, adding to that homely atmosphere, and don't forget the live music on the last Saturday of the month for a bit of extra cheer. On the flip side, though, it's not all smooth sailing – a couple of people mentioned waits for food that stretched on a bit too long, and there might be the odd off day with service. Still, with an overall rating hovering around 4.1, it's clear the good outweighs the bad for most. If you're heading out for a meal or a pint, I'd say give it a go, but maybe avoid peak times if you're in a hurry. All in all, it's a solid choice for a relaxed catch-up with mates or family.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The Sunday roasts are absolutely spot on – plenty of rave reviews about them being some of the best around, with bottomless Yorkshire puds and unlimited gravy to boot.
-
They've got a cracking selection of cask ales, including favourites from their own brewery like Manchester Pale Ale, perfect for a relaxing pint in the beer garden.
-
It's a real family-friendly spot with a welcoming vibe, plus it's dog-friendly in certain areas, making it ideal for a casual outing with the kids or your furry mate.
-
Friendly staff who make you feel right at home, and they've got some great deals like two mains for £21.95 during pub lunch hours.
-
Live entertainment on the last Saturday of the month adds a fun touch, and they serve breakfast on weekends, which is a nice bonus for a lazy morning.
Cons
-
Service can be a bit slow at times, with one experience mentioning a two-hour wait for food, which might put a dampener on your visit.
-
There are occasional inconsistencies, like the odd disappointing meal or service slip-up, based on that one-star review we saw.
-
While it's generally great, it might not suit everyone if you're in a rush, as things can drag on during busier periods.

Afternoon tea ♡
The tea selection was a standout, offering an impressive and diverse range to suit all palates. Whether you're after a classic Earl Grey or something a bit more adventurous, you're spoiled for choice.
The sandwiches were unexpectedly flavourful, with thoughtful and engaging combinations that elevated each bite well beyond the usual fare.
Mini desserts followed and didn’t disappoint. Each one was crafted with precision and quality, both visually appealing and a joy to eat. The scones were also excellent—light, fresh, and perfectly paired with clotted cream and jam.
Service was polite and professional.
Overall, a sophisticated and enjoyable afternoon tea with standout food and ambience. Worth the visit for a classy treat in a beautiful setting. It's 15 GBP per person, so it's perfect as an off treat.
Called in by chance a week last Sunday after visiting a relative in a local care home. We were made to feel very welcome.
Excellent beef roast and fresh vegetables. The young lady who served us was excellent. Compliments also to the chef.
Unfortunately the restaurant and service lets this place down, 2nd time in a month we’ve been (thought we’d give it another chance) big mistake first time it took 2 hours for our food to come! We were warned of a delay but it doesn’t usually mean THIS long, would have gone elsewhere if it wasn’t for the fact our car had broken down.
Came today and again very slow, we booked for 2 but weren’t served our food till 3! They said it’s because I wanted my steak well done, we eat out regularly and never have an issue in other places, the steak wasn’t well done when it arrived, still very pink. Mentioned the wait and the steak and the manager got defensive, no offer of a drink or anything, also my son ordered sausage and chips but what came was pigs in blankets when we said something the waitress accused us of lying and looked at the menu in front of us, it doesn’t say pigs in blankets! We took the bacon off but the two things are different especially to ASD kids. Never eating here again especially with so many great places nearby.
I also don’t buy that you were busy because it was empty. Lots of items not available also
